I started working as a programmer in 1984. Throughout my career, we spent a lot of time on making code more efficient, faster running. If nothing else, LLMs are the opposite. Let's make programs that require trillions of dollars of infrastructure, that get things wrong!

I came across on my hard drive while looking for other things. I segmented the nervous system and part of the digestive system in this Atta vollenweideri head, then apparently I animated it and forgot it existed... This was based on CT data graciously provided by the Labonte lab.

I’ve often said (partly tongue in cheek) that spite can be a great motivator. But mudita (freudenfeude), the ability to be truly happy for others’ success, can be a much more reliable way to have a fulfilling career. Even if it can seem that way, science is not a zero sum game. Play the long game.
