People often send me pictures of their cats and dogs with my books, but it's nice to know that less domesticated creatures sometimes read them, too, such as this endangered long-eared bat someone photographed and sent me recently.

A lovely cat wondering why the fuck somebody has given it my book, Villager, when it has repeatedly told them how much it despises episodic psychedelic novels.

I find the disparity between 1) this encouraging library news 2) all the overseas Blackwell's sales, and a) the book not being published outside the UK, b) me going into a load of London bookshops and finding zero copies in them kind of bizarre. Publishing makes no sense a lot of the time.

I loved this book but I'm annoyed I gave my copy to someone else and now want my own. Though I suspect I might give that one to my mum. But at least I can nick it back off her. Plus I love Toms mums lino prints and also references to Bagpuss.

Finished "Everything Will Swallow You" a week ago. Some books you need to sit with after you finish - this is one. Heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, which is a pretty good trick. I think this is his best yet.

The publishing industry views Bluesky as some tiny unimportant island out somewhere in a far-off ocean. It's not worthy of their attention like Amazon Algoland or The Republic Of Instagram Influencer Collaborativepost is. What they don't realise is just how much the island's inhabitants love books.

My parents made this bird sculpture from various bits of wood and old metal they found in their shed and made a perch for it on the sawn-off trunk of a dead tree, and it makes for some great folk horror winter sunset photos.

My mum and dad’s metal bird sculpture in their garden, earlier this year.
