The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

A herring gull presenting an annoying TV documentary about the British seaside in which it discusses lots of boringly obvious things about being a seagull and says "JOIN ME ON MY SEAGULL JOURNEY" a lot.
A seagull presenting its own TV documentary, on the British coast.
After this, a drone shot followed, illustrating the awesome power of the landscape, then a quick-cut montage of images of the seagull stealing chips and trying to fly off with an old toaster, in a desperate attempt not to lose the viewer's attention.

Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.
Screenshot for a Defector podcast episode with the headline "Consider the Emotional Lives of Scallops" only the accompanying photo is a white gormless stubbled red-headed UK singer of recent notoriety giving a flat smile to the camera while wearing a washed out peach top as beige as he is against a flat background. So, actually, probably a scallop anyway.

People are talking about the flats in what was Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre so I'm once again going to wax lyrical about one of the greatest pieces of graphic design I've ever seen. It is simultaneously and elephant and a castle! The crenellations are his leggies and his trunkum is a flag!
Logo for the defunct Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre. Above those words, all in lower case, is a simple black illustration on a white background. It's a rectangle with curved corners at the top, and along the bottom are three square cut-puts, plus a cutout of a triangle on a stick. Above the triangle is a small white dot. Taken together, it looks like the battlements of a castle, with crenellations, a flag, and a sun in the sky (or a moon, and a night sky, if you like), and ALSO like a simple depiction of an elephant - a black elephant with a white eye, and a trunk that folds around.

I can’t stop scrolling through Facebook’s horrible translations of Welsh on the BBC Cymru Fyw (Wales Live) page. This one updates on the majestic red whales of Anglesey
Screenshot from the BBC Cymru Byw page with Welsh news item and English translation, with a photo of a smiling woman next to an insert showing a red squirrel on a tree.

Erbyn 1997 roedd Ilai na 40 o wiwerod coch yn weddill ar Ynys Môn, ond heddiw mae tua 700 ohonynt ar yr ynys. Dyma hanes grûp arbennig sy'n gweithio i ofalu am y wiwerod

By 1997 there were less than 40 red whales left on Anglesey, but today there are about 700 of them on the island. This is the history of a special group working to care for the animals

To be fair, there’s only one mistranslation here but it’s quite an important one.

(The word for whales is morfilod, so god knows where this mix-up came from)

I continue to absolutely detest the word “Herstory.” Let’s leave aside that history comes from the Greek ῐ̔στορῐ́ᾱ (“inquiry”); it’s just ridiculous to separate out the experience of women from the umbrella of history. I don’t want two versions or a binary. I want women implicit in all histories.
