everyone lucked the hell out on the terror attack today where the co-pilot stabbed the pilot, passengers took down the attacker *and* there seem to have been two off-duty pilots who were able to land the plane safely. Could have been one of the worst attacks for a while otherwise.

yeah I think this gets at the core of it - "throw more compute at model development" hasn't stopped working yet, there doesn't seem to be any end in sight, and it's really fucking expensive there is a LOT of money to be here but not necessarily enough to match the continuous capex required

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The audio of Mr. Paxton was shared with The Times by an attendee who recorded him speaking at a private fund-raiser in Washington attended by roughly a dozen people. The person, who opposes Mr. Paxton’s campaign and provided the recording to The Times, was granted anonymity because Mr. Paxton’s remarks were private.
