In the Jurassic Era I worked on BP tankers. 1 of the ships I was on had previously been in BP's French fleet and was gorgeous inside, like a miniature cruise ship. But very sadly they had removed the two stainless steel tanks which stored the essential red and white wines. No kidding.

Hungarian (I think) postcard of the sinking French Cruiser Leon Gambetta, which we're assured is the victim of a "megtorpedozot". It's certainly been dotted all right. Clearing out old family files. FiL was in Royal Navy Reserve. Came across this wall poster for “Crests of the Royal Navy.” Posting here in case it’s of any interest or use to anyone. Tag @garius.bsky.social and @dreadships.bsky.social
A poster showing grid of Royal Navy crests, with identification. There are 7 rows, with 16 crests in each row. The poster is pretty battered, and creased where it’s been carelessly folded then stored for decades.

Here’s a thread of some of the more unusual or obscure aircraft to fly in Britain during the Second World War. Some were only intended as experimental or proof of concept designs, while others never progressed beyond the prototype stage.
Front left 3/4 view of a camouflaged Blackburn B20 flying boat/floatplane with RAF markings on temporary wheels outside a hangar. An unconventional design, its lower hull is separate from the fuselage, acting as a central float; in this picture, it’s shown extended on hydraulic struts. A twin engined design, it also features retractable wingtip floats.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
