This will never stop blowing my mind. A 12-year sequence of real telescope images of a star 133 lightyears away. And around it, four planets slowly orbiting. Four real exoplanets, each more massive than Jupiter, imaged as they move around their host star.

I don’t trust the mainstream media, but I feel like the primary alternate model, getting the news from the posts of a 14 year-old Romanian schizophrenic shitposter named “G00n3R the Swamp Pervert,” is not necessarily a superior alternative.

Caffeine doesn't replace lost hours of sleep, it only masks the fatigue signals to your brain so you don't realize how tired you actually are. You still suffer the cognitive and physiological deficits from the sleep deficiency, you just can't tell. Which is good actually and fine I've decided

there's a reason why an illiterate hobo from the middle of nowhere in the desert stands alongside men like aristotle and confucius as one of the great moral philosophers of all time, and it's precisely because he annihilated so many preconceived notions about what things like strength and power are

The ragebaitin’ you see now, it's hard to even take its measure. It's not that I'm afraid of it. But, I don't want to push my chips forward and go out and meet something I don't understand. A man would have to put his soul at hazard. He'd have to say, "O.K., I'll be part of this world."

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

The Gulf and Western Siberia are going to be taken large offline for the next decade or so. That's about 40% of the world's traded oil and natural gas. If the US closes its exports again, that another 15%. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has planned for a world with half the energy exports.

We could reduce US fossil-fuel pollution (climate & local air/water) ~25% by cleaning up the grid, ~25% by electrifying ground transport, and ~25% by electrifying heat (for space/water/food/many industrial processes). The last ~25% - everything else - is important but no reason not to do the 75%.

Happy Beerthday to meeee! Restocked the home brewery for next year's brewing & winemaking adventures. Yay! It's the 5 year brew-a-versary from when I decided to reclaim this hobby & part of my identity... looking forward to creating a bunch of tasty stuff in this next revolution around the sun! 🍽️🍷🍻
a table piled up with bags of brewing supplies, including base and specialty malts, hops, caps, corks, and labels, beer and wine yeast, and a red carboy brush (finally got a soft one that won't scratch the plastic carboys to make cleaning them easier). A case of just bottled lilac & elderberry wine is in a crate on the right, and misc. bottles are in the background waiting to be washed.

It's hard to say what "games that shaped who I am" even means as I don't know how much I've been influenced by games (except Sim City) so much as learned from them. But these were all really important to me in their times, in what I think is a chronological order.
My 9 Games
