Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers found two separate suspects illegally harvesting ginseng roots:
1) 167 poached roots.
2) 521 roots (8 lbs).
Undamaged roots will be replanted in the park, but data shows that only about 1/3 of those will survive. Ginseng can take 7–10 years to mature.
