Probably the prettiest apple we had at the tasting is Blue Pearmain. They look like watercolor paintings in person. Tasty too--a bit like King, but denser and better keepers.

One apple I didn't get for the tastings (didn't get out to the right orchard in time) that's also wonderful is Esopus Spitzenburg. Before we identified it we called these "everlasting" since they keep really well. Nice flavor fresh, good keeper, probably great as cider too.

Some snicky snacks (girl & boy dinner but, not dinner? just snacks? dinner is later?) feat. homemade beer mustard, smoked almonds, flax crackers, and chard stem pickles, plus black pepper Carrs, cut-up pepperoni snack sticks, olives, swiss, and leek+morel jack cheese from Costco ($5, holla!). 🍽️ 🧀🪤

Also, humans need to gather and process information. (I spent most of the afternoon digging through a bunch of business rules to see how a set of workflows were set up, and frankly I should have done it sooner. That department is a mess. But this is how you exercise your brain.

Let’s be clear: we have both wide-spread anecdotal & data driven, research level analysis that LLM use erodes cognitive skills faster than Alzheimer’s. Using it is literally bad for your brain, and bad for your ability to learn and retain new information. As a public health matter? It’s horrifying.

Nah, it actually sucks at the user level. I live with someone forced to use it, whose coworkers have become progressively less able at their jobs, less able to communicate effectively, less moral, less ethical, more paranoid, and it links directly to the C-suite’s (not-yet homicidal) AI psychosis.

This one is a keeper... a chocolate buttermilk cake with boiled mocha frosting & toasted pecans. It's a classic Texas sheet cake with a modern twist. No mixer needed, just melt cocoa & butter etc in a pot, mix everything up in a big bowl, stir it, & bake. Use the same pot for the frosting! 🍽️🍜🎂

Made a big pot of braised venison in ancho-coffee sauce on seasoned rice, with veggie quesadillas and a side salad of cherry tomatoes from our garden, chopped radish, cabbage, & lime. Soooo good. Happy Beerthday to meeee! Restocked the home brewery for next year's brewing & winemaking adventures. Yay! It's the 5 year brew-a-versary from when I decided to reclaim this hobby & part of my identity... looking forward to creating a bunch of tasty stuff in this next revolution around the sun! 🍽️🍷🍻
