Like it's also not just even transphobia being legitimised - it's direct discrimination, a breach of trans people's human rights being the law of the land. An entire group of people's who's very ability to function in society removed

I've talked about this before, but it is very hard when you see how moral red lines are drawn, and the complete gutting of trans people's civil rights is entirely within an accepted norm and barely remarked upon even by many progressives.

I am quite sick of people asserting that the election of Trump suddenly made rape something men feel they can get away with. There's no excuse for the level of studied ignorance that that belief requires.

Lookit. Deep down every Irish person wants to spin some yank a yarn that gets cited as fact in some factual text. We told an Irish American girl that when the Muppets was released in Ireland, Kermit the Frog was called Dermot the Frog because Cromwell’s son was a Kermit.

Moving classes has opened my eyes to what upper middle, class people think “welfare” is. They don’t know what it means. I overheard 3 wealthy quantity surveyors tell each other council houses were free, no rent to be paid, they all genuinely believed this to be true. The gulf is enormous

Matthew Shepard would be 49 years old today. But on this day 28 years ago he was beaten, tortured, tied to a fence and left to die by two young men whose violence was founded on homophobia. The attitudes and beliefs which fed their hate are still with us today. Don't ever let Matthew be forgotten.

It's the modern version of the stocks, and I hate it. I remember a couple of years bag a teenage girl getting aggro on a London train went super viral and the response was just vile. We need to guard against this stuff.

An interesting exchange on how to react to Slop-as-evidence at the Oireachtas. Oireachtas committees hear from people with all sorts of views, and by definition, many of them diverge from each other. But they are actually their views. The people who come in expressed them.
