Stephen Welsh has made two appearances, ironically enough, for Scotland this international break. To add to the confusion Bobby Wales (no relation) scored for the Scotland U21s v Azerbaijan today. And to make it even weirder: they both play for Swansea

Very much agree with this. It is genuinely infuriating to listen to people equate delays on congested routes with a bad railway - a similar trend is also present in the UK where people are addicted to taking reasonable complaints about railway flaws and blowing them way out of proportion

A Saint looks up from his prayers to
discover he’s been dead for some time
For St Robert of Knaresborough
By Jay Hulme - from 'The Vanishing Song'

After he retired to the cave
prayer grew in him like a forest,
sowed its seeds inside his psyche,
rewilded his heart. He didn’t
see that centuries had passed
without him.
                              One day he
looked up, hearing requests for
intercession, and the woods were
older than expected, the riverbanks
shifted by the years —
                                              and as he
knelt before the altar in his hermit's
church, his knees disappeared below
the edges of his emptied grave.

Yesterday I ordered a pickleback at a bar, and they said they didn't have pickles but they'd got pickled onions so used that instead. It wasn't until after I'd drunk it that I realised the crucial difference that gherkins are pickled in brine and I'd just done a shot of oniony white vinegar.

DW tender is out. Editorial (extract below, my emphasis) certainly does not suggest an appetite to move away from the show's all-things-to-all-people approach. The line about lore is a fairly solid criticism of the last (possibly last two) showrunners. Door is open for a pretty hard relaunch though.
We see this pitch as an exciting opportunity to innovate and surprise us. Stories should balance high concept science fiction with strong emotional narratives, ensuring that spectacle is always grounded in character and human experience. Episodes should transport audiences to extraordinary times and places, ranging from historical settings to distant futures, alien worlds, and contemporary Earth. Successful pitches will deliver ‘back of the sofa’ scares, jeopardy and tension, whilst remaining suitable for a broad family audience. Doctor Who embraces themes that celebrate curiosity, courage, intelligence, and compassion, themes that interrogate the human condition and most of all, it should and will always be distinctively British storytelling. We are flexible in the way the series is structured i.e. serialised or ‘story-of-the-week’ and the number of episodes which make up the series.
Iconic, established villains are a mainstay of the series over 60 years and we invite you to use them, but we will want to begin to get an understanding of the original characters, aliens and themes that producers wish to bring to the show and are keen not to be overly reliant on existing Doctor Who lore. We are looking for a new perspective that ensures Doctor Who remains relevant, surprising, brave and inspiring for both long-standing fans and new audiences.

No matter how many times I think about how much change Britain has undergone in the 200 years since the beginning of the industrial revolution (which is a lot since it is my literal job) it still boggles my mind. In 1831, 28% of families worked in agriculture. In 2025, just 0.58% of people did.

The Home Secretary should be relieved of her duties and the entire operational command of HIW Police should be subject to disciplinary action. Thugs are currently feeling empowered to attempt pogroms because police continue to be disinterested in preventing them. It really is that simple.

It also pushes us further down the destructive path of viewing university education as only valuable as a means to a job, which has contributed greatly to the crisis the sector is in now. Plus, it's nonsense in an economy whose modal job requires a degree, but also has no interest in those degrees.
