That's the scariest part. The speed at which people gave way to cognitive outsourcing/surrender. Like, no, we don't need to develop skills, learn how to convey information or retain the humanity that attends. The end-result of commodification of process - its elimination. #spéirghorm #ireland

More cool stuff from the wall of the Mechanics' Institute in Limerick. It's amazing how long some of these orgs have been around:
A stone bas-relief with the emblem of the Mechanics' Imstitute, founded in 1810. The central symbol is an arm wielding a mallet, and over it is a horseshoe-shaped banner saying "Mechanics' Institute." Anove this is another banner that says "LABOR OMNIA VINCET." A heraldic bas-relief plaque for the Ancient Guild of Incorporated Brick and Stone Layers of Limerick, established in 1677. In the centre, a man in a white tunic and a golden dragon stand on either side of a shield emblazoned with the tools of stonemasonry (hammers, compasses, adze etc). The background is green and the whole lot is flanked with images of castles, pillars, lighthouses etc.A heraldic bas-relief plaque for the Regular Operative Plasterers' Society, established in 1670. In the centre, two golden gryphons stand on either side of a shield emblazoned with a hammer and trowel. The background is green, and underneath, a banner reads "Brotherly Love Continued."A heraldic bas-relief plaque for the Ancient Guild of Irish National Painters and Decorators, established in 1670. In the centre, a man in a mauve tunic and a golden unicorn stand on either side of a shield emblazoned with indistinct symbols that I presume are painters' pallets. The background is green, and there's a scrolling banner underneath that says "Love, Honour, Obedience."

The reason this was such a high profile case was two fold: 1) To demonstrate to trans people that even if you are utterly blameless, the gender cranks will object to you being employed 2) To demonstrate to businesses that there is a hefty cost to employing trans people, critters Will try to sue

Portadown is where the first Loyal Orange Lodge was founded. I don't discount that Drumcree is important to them. But the Orange Order is also a sectarian hate brigade that's inexorably linked to paramilitary violence over the years. They're bigots through and through.
