Yeah, we were just mocking Rees-Mogg for complaining that the mansion tax would mean normal working young people will have to pay taxes on their £2.5 million homes just as they are starting their careers. This video is like watching a 6 year-old beat a 2 year-old at checkers.

passing the "zionism is racism" motion on the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street is a bit on the fucking nose isn't it

If any mutuals are supportive of the passing of the GPEW's "Zionism is racism" motion, please let me know and I'll unfollow. It is above all a failure of leadership - in terms of both failing to prevent the entryism that created the majority in favour, and failing to express clear opposition to it.

They were friends? You mean a DISABLED girl could be friends with the TEAM CAPTAIN? Surely not, we all know disabled people are not real people with the capacity for friendship and agency! (yes, mods, that was sarcasm.)

Just so dispiriting to watch the Greens be corrupted by the same poison that took over Labour. All the same shit: the excuses, the mealy-mouthed justifications, the tortured position statements, the deafening silences. Like a historical reenactment.

Russell Findlay is a deeply dislikeable reactionary bigot, but if talking about independence at every possible opportunity is obsessive, The National should look closer to home for folk to criticise!

There is an argument for uncompensated public ownership for Thames Water because its shares are junk anyway (although really UKGov need to pursue Macquarie for the billions it siphoned off before jettisoning the corpse) but SE Water is still owned by pension funds, so how would that be justified?

Hmm. We need more kindness in the world, that's for sure, but I think we need a lot less monetising of emotional moments online, a lot less performative morality for clicks, and a complete end to the treatment of disabled people as opportunities for fleeting pity before we scroll to the next video.

Interesting watching what’s going on in France, here, Spain and the USA. We are reaching that ‘let them eat cake’ moment where the super rich have taken too much out the system and it’s obviously hurting ordinary folk. Were I a smart billionaire I’d be asking for tax rises.

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

"Starmer was complicit in genocide" sits alongside "Blair is a war criminal" as marking out the person saying so as either not understanding the words they are using or not caring that they simply aren't true. You can be deeply opposed to injustice without being dishonest. In fact it helps.

The greatest service Keir Starmer did the Labour party was to drive the anti-Semitic left out of the Labour party. He deserves immense credit for that. The Greens welcoming them with open arms was absolutely always going to prove a disastrous decision

Fascinating detail in here about GPEW conference and the "Zionism is racism" motion, including some explicit evidence of the widespread entryism we knew was happening, and some deeply disturbing detail on how party officials are preparing for the debate. "We expect no physical violence" indeed.

In the interests of appropriately directing any righteous anger you might feel about this, I would like to point out that the monarch surrendered control over the Crown Estates in 1760, so, massive environmentalist though he may be, King Charles can't really do much about this I'm afraid.

Scary, and also a reminder that the US mortgage market is *very* different from ours. There, a 30-year fixed rate is standard, which is why higher interest rates have quite different economic effects to when they happen here.

Trump and the weaponisation of ignorance is one thing; the US at least has clear voices condemning that aberration and those winds will change. But it is guns, religiosity and the death penalty - support for which runs through all sides of US politics - that for me makes the country unfathomable.

I think Burnham is fortunate that he said this in the same week he said so much other stuff that is giving him positive headlines, because this is a very ill-judged intervention for a Prime Minister. He should never have even entertained the question. He can't blur lines like this.
