It's cool that the American political system gave ultimate control of the nuclear football to a senile pedophile twice, including a popular vote win after a failed coup attempt. Anyway, you should be our ally.

1. good contender for the most "bluesky" bluesky post in that it is an extraordinarily inane observation that's been discussed to death, repackaged as if it is some kind of grand moral statement 2. i think if bruce wayne has politics i suspect he's build in the rockefeller, du pont mold.

Phil Gordon, the National Security Advisor to Kamala Harris who in late 2024 insisted that the VP was categorically opposed to the suspension of any more weapons to Israel and would never change policy, says Brett McGurk is wrong in his assertion that the US was too mean to Israel.
Harris was hardly the only U.S. official to warn, publicly and privately, that an Israeli assault on Rafah would be a “huge mistake” with potential "consequences." Biden had by then already called it a "red line" and later went on CNN to threaten to withhold offensive weapons over it. And he was right to do so to prevent Israel from launching a ground offensive without a plan for the more than one million civilians sheltering there. It is implausible that a U.S. green light would have unlocked a favorable hostage offer from Hamas, which made no such offer even after Israel went into Rafah (or for eight months after that) or that Netanyahu would have agreed to end the war with Sinwar still alive. Whatever the administration's “biggest mistakes,” pressing Israel to change its Rafah plans was not among them.

Wait, wait, I was to understand you could always just drive straight down a highway. That, indeed, the height of warfare was driving straight down the highway. Are you saying that is not always true? I'm feeling lied to right now.

It's why I always get frustrated when people try to trot out pre-Mukden aphorisms and other wisdom. You just cannot compare the modern "you must be this committed to ride this ride" era of warfare with the pre-Mukden era where morale was a weapon in and of itself.

thing is, if you lack the spirit, the logistics won’t save you (which is why there are times you can just drive down a highway™️), but spirit plateaus pretty sharply and we’ve gotten pretty good at getting guys willing to charge trenches. The challenge is more not getting them slaughtered.

how does this remotely make sense scope it to tactical systems, group 3 UAS/below, UGVs, and make it a land-centric command and maybe there's something (although just make an army led joint TF or w/e then) but why would you take away OT&E of ships and planes from the people who do ships and planes

fundamentally, the question comes down "is war about spirit or is it about logistics?" (if you think it's entirely about the former, you're going to get your shit rocked)

Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.
