another good way of thinking about what cracking value radio 4 is that it makes twenty hours of programming a day - news, drama, comedy, documentaries, a soap opera, arts - for about £90m/yr, while spotify pay joe rogan about £60m/year to listen gullibly to liars for about nine hours per week

what does "netflix-style vision for iplayer" even mean? they already do the same thing as netflix's core product. it is a netflix-style service.

The side effect of this is that people will refuse to have sex with anyone wearing glasses. It will be like being young in the 1990s all over again.

I don't think anyone can really equivocate on the death penalty in America given that it's not even like, "oh, they might get it wrong!" They *constantly* get it wrong. GOP governors are forever overruling successful appeals or racing courts to kill someone before they're exonerated.

Someone at work once asked me what my guilty pleasure was and I immediately shot back “pleasure never makes me feel guilty.” I’ve seldom felt cooler than I did in that moment. Literally one minute later I tripped on an extension cord and hit my head on a whiteboard in front of the entire office

New word: CLICKWALL. (n) The opposite of clickbait. A headline so unappealing, promising so little reward even by the standards of these things, that it is physically impossible to tap the link to the article.

Big Daddy receives a medal from Princess Michael of Kent. By the 1980s, Shirley Crabtree had become far more than a wrestler. He was one of British television’s most recognisable personalities, appearing at celebrity and charity events well beyond the wrestling halls.

There were some incredible posts at the height of the NFT bubble

@TaschaLabs

If you make a NFT of a real diamond, and the diamond itself gets destroyed in a fire tomorrow, you still have the same asset.

Because the token still exists and is in limited supply just as before. Nothing has changed.

What NFT is doing to the concept of asset, few understand.

people end up unable to see depiction as anything other than endorsement when their entire cultural diet is escapist fun and reassurance. they see something make them uncomfortable and can only assume people are watching horrible shit as vicarious pleasure and are horrified.
