Can you imagine a sympathetic profile of any kind of far left figure in the legacy media? www.welcometohellworld.com/sadly-i-lived/
Can you imagine a sympathetic profile of any kind of far left figure in the legacy media?

"They were a standard issue Democrat, but now they are an anarchist (complimentary). We also did a nice photo shoot."

The media loves a political transformation story but only within strict boundaries of the acceptable Overton window. That could be a Republican who says they are a liberal now (and are still really a Republican obviously) or a nazi who claims they are somewhat less of a nazi now (still a nazi of course). The only time the left is ever involved is if it is a figure nominally on the left who will be given space to claim how the left has failed them and forced them toward the center (which is all either Republicans and or nazis).

Or would that have been something even beyond Baudrillard’s imagination? I know literally nothing about the man except the one book, but if only Baudrillard had lived to experience Japanese chicken-flavored squid snacks in the year 2026. Perhaps it was inevitable that our poets would grow tired of our own antiquated moon. They had long since stripped it clean of metaphor. Can you imagine what poetry must be like on one of those science fiction planets where they have multiple moons?
Moon blindness
They were shooting poems into space. Tucking them
into cozy little capsules inside of the rockets. This
latest batch was supposed to head toward Jupiter’s
moon Europa and then Saturn’s moon Titan they said.
Perhaps it was inevitable that our poets would
grow tired of our own antiquated moon. They had
long since stripped it clean of metaphor.
Can you imagine what poetry must be like on
one of those science fiction planets where they have
multiple moons? Or some kind of distinctive moon
with more personality than ours?
I can’t think of any space films where they focus
on all that much poetry going on though. Everyone
usually too busy shooting lasers and running from
dinosaurs.
Perhaps they just never get around to showing
us that pocket of space life and there is always poetry
being scribbled about the tidal waves of diamond sand
and the stabbing shores of acidic oceans and purple
carnivorous canopies and floating rock formations just
off camera in every single world any of us has ever
envisioned.
Then again it’s possible more moons is actually
worse from a poet’s perspective. You have to allow
for that.
Stasis amidst abundance of choice.Could be that the relative scarcity of moon for us
is what animates the soul so to speak.
No one had made it clear why they were doing
this stunt in the first place. In the hopes that someone
somewhere might find them much later on and have
to contend with this untranslatable mess concerning
what our most educated alcoholics were so morose
about all the time?
What we thought birds symbolized.
All of the different names of trees we had come
up with.
The shapes of the shadows cast on the walls after
divorce.
Whether war is good or not.
Either way it all seemed like a lot of trouble to go
to for poems that no one was ever going to read. Not
in a thousand years. They could have just published
them the old fashioned way down here in a book.

And that’s the rigorous standard by which we send people to their death in this country. Some fucking dentist comes in and bullshits for a while in front of a jury and then a judge goes welp that’s good enough for me this person deserves to die. www.welcometohellworld.com/what-cause-i...
“Dr. West became the first person to be suspended from the ABFO, and by 2006 he was forced to resign from the American Board of Forensic Pathology,” the Innocence Project wrote last year in arguing for Howard’s innocence among others. “Still, that same year, in response to an appeal, the Mississippi Supreme Court wrote of Dr. West’s testimony in Howard’s case: ‘Just because Dr. West has been wrong a lot, does not mean, without something more, that he was wrong here.’”

And that’s the rigorous standard by which we send people to their death in this country. Some fucking dentist comes in and bullshits for a while in front of a jury and then a judge goes welp that’s good enough for me this person deserves to die.

“Nearly a quarter of the 2,601 people who have been exonerated since 1989 were wrongfully convicted based on false or misleading forensic evidence, like bite marks,” according to the National Registry of Exonerations.

Howard got lucky in that he wasn’t killed on our behalf although lucky doesn’t really seem appropriate. He was arbitrarily spared. A coin was flipped and he won.

It’s very hard to spread a person’s ashes without feeling as if you’re doing it in an artful and mannered way. It feels too cinematic and performative even if you are only performing for an audience of ex-wives and conflicted children standing there in their gas station rain ponchos.
It was an anniversary of a day he didn’t like
to think about but his phone memories made him
anyhow. It was a photo of a power plant or factory of
some kind looming over the water of Buzzards Bay
just at the top of Cape Cod. It’s gray and raining in
the photo and there’s a bike path with brightly painted
lines curving off out of frame as if to suggest infinity
and when he took it the day they clumped some wet
ashes onto the mossy rocks down there he thought it
was this real emotionally evocative and moody tableau
like it encapsulated Death Itself as a concept but in
retrospect that didn’t really track because the yellow
arrows on the path are pointing both this way and that
and that’s not how dying or time works. Instead it all
just goes in the one direction.
He often felt guilty because most of the stories he
told about his father were about him either being sick
or dying but for the past twenty years of his life that’s
pretty much all he ever saw him doing and in the first
twenty they didn’t have phones to offload memories
onto for safekeeping.
He sometimes felt sheepish too because what a
silly cliché it was to be a fully grown man and stillbe fucked up about your dead father but that’s pretty
much one of the main things men have to be fucked up
about besides war so give him a break he thought. He
didn’t invent psychology.

there's still this idea among some ai boosters that ai in law is gonna level the playing field for poor people/give them better access to law but so far it's been like: your state appointed attorney will shit out the worst possible ai-generated bullshit and you'll rot in prison
“It's little comfort to know that my stupidity is what brings us together this afternoon,” New Mexico attorney Stephen D. Aarons said in a hearing last month before five judges. He “assumed” ChatGPT would generate a “bulletproof summary of proceedings.” Instead, ChatGPT generated false testimony from “wholly fabricated witnesses,” according to an order of direct contempt from the New Mexico Supreme Court. Aarons was representing a man who was found guilty of killing his wife earlier this year; Aarons said he hadn’t told his client directly that he was caught using ChatGPT on the case because he’s currently serving life in prison.
