Extremely common Mesopotamian W. It’s always a fun detail that our extant Akkadian corpus is almost as big as the extant Classical Latin corpus, largely for this reason.

if your agents are going to commit crimes, you are legally responsible if you cannot figure out how to prevent your agents from doing crimes, you’re going to have to choose between releasing them and protecting yourself from criminal liability imo this would do more for “ai safety” than a sex cult

SpaceX isn't a load bearing part of elon's wealth, so the real problem is just getting legal assurances the USG retains ultimate control over the use of the assets the USG is paying to use. There's easy legal ways to do this that don't require the nuclear option of nationalizing it or whatever

anduril doesn't make anything that isn't made better by someone else and so terminating the contracts for cause because they suck at what they were contracted to do (objective fact) and letting someone else buy up the bit of real property plant they own will be extremely easy

Palantir shifting from hiring only "Ivy or Ivy-equivalent" degrees to hiring only out of high school is an admission that "training" and "talent" were never factors at all. They were looking for packaging & prestige, and now they're looking for ignorance & impressionability.
Tech companies launching their own programs to train grads because they ‘can’t rely’ on Ivy Leagues
By Lydia Moynihan
Published Oct. 1, 2026, 6:00 a.m. ETAs the university system increasingly becomes a wildly expensive bastion of anti-Western sentiment, key figures in Silicon Valley are betting on alternatives to higher education. They argue that even the Ivy League is no longer producing the best candidates — nor are they even accepting some of the most qualified students.

“It used to be the case that you could rely on somebody who went to an Ivy or Ivy-equivalent to be top notch,” said Jordan Hirsch, who runs Palantir’s semester-long intensive Meritocracy Fellowship, which accepts high school graduates.“But that’s not the case anymore… we suspected that there was a lot of talent being missed.”

South Korea is now a democracy and not, let's say, a hybrid authoritarian regime thanks to the blood and efforts of its people. And I'm not only talking about Yoon. 1988, the anti-junta protests and movement. Which is why it pisses me off when tankies reduce the ROK to "fash capitalist dystopia".

absolutely terrible, stupid framing. DOGE could have *only* been a "missed opportunity" if it had been conceived, planned, & implemented exactly opposite of how it was, by people who did not think like they did, for goals antithetical to their actual goals.

He said this at the time, as did many, and it remains a bald-faced lie. Not a matter of opinion. It's just completely untrue as an objective factual matter. Civil marriage laws don't work like that and never have. Just like the legality of divorce and remarriage doesn't affect the Catholic Church.
