The 2Ku system uses a pair of these 30" antennae, one for transmit and one for receive. It is incredibly efficient, but also large. By comparison, a base Starlink install for aero is a ~20" square. Larger planes get two or three of them, but still a very small install footprint. #paxex #ifec

Alaska Airlines offered us all free Lyft rides for our time in Seattle. I paid the $3 each way to/from the airport on the light rail instead. Trading $75 for ~20 minutes isn't so bad. Even when someone else is buying.

Are higher costs finally pushing consumers to reconsider air travel? Data from @iata.org shows slowing growth in August and "weaker connectivity" (ie routes trimmed). North American market declined, along with the expected Middle East drop. Europe/APAC marginally holding on. #AvGeek

Excluding the Middle East carriers, demand for air travel grew by 0.6% year-on-year in August, half the pace seen in July. With some important exceptions such as domestic China, global connectivity was generally weaker in August. The coming months will reveal whether travelers, whose purchasing power has been reduced by higher energy prices, are adjusting their travel budgets, and might be discouraged from traveling due to the prevailing geopolitical instability. In the meantime, forward schedules for October are showing cautious optimism with 2.0% growth in available seats,” said Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability, and Chief Economist.

Let me give you the actual solution to this problem. Universities and colleges have to hire football players as union employees (AFL-CIO, same as the NFL), with no requirement to attend school. They get health and retirement benefits, and are limited to a five year employment contract.
