A part of the force did continue onwards to the pontoon bridge south of Dmytrivka, which was the only bridge through which everything that was heading for the border operation and back would pass. Needless to say, after two months of fighting, the place wasn't a pretty sight:

Hebrew punctuation precedes Zionism as a political movement by about a 800 years. It was not in any way integral to "spoken Hebrew" and the unity between Jews across the world was never "artificial". It's just wrong on so many levels.

Plenty of pictures of new Canucks in blaze orange in the snow, posing with the whitetail they just punched a tag on. The town's bustling, and it's a two-way street. And if that doesn't make you want to sing O Canada and run through a brick wall, you're less Canadian than they are.

In those 20 years, Neepawa has been one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada, and around half the population is ethnically Filipino. It's one of the few small towns on the prairies having problems of increasing growth and commerce. Most of this is an expansion to the hylife plant.

Anyway there's a spot on the map in western Manitoba called Neepawa. It mostly exists as one of those towns you need from time to time in farm country, and lingered because it's where a provincial highway intersects with the Yellowhead. Some friends of mine ended up there ~20 years ago.

But not all of them! And across the prairies and north, plenty of Filipinos, and increasing numbers of Indian and Chinese people, taking a stab at a Canadian life. This isn't new, every town on the Yellowhead had a Chinese-Canadian restaurant when I was growing up, usually best food in town.

Fully endorse Owl's point here, a bit of colour. For obvious reasons, a lot of new Canadians land in the big cities. More optionality in terms of jobs & housing, better services, statistically more likely to have friends and family there. Same reason most people end up in cities.

Picked this one up at random and was pleasantly surprised by it. Kenyon sets himself a difficult task - rehabilitating British horse cavalry on the Western Front - but I think he pulls it off with a fairly modest argument (that cavalry was tactically useful but hampered by its organization).

I will say that I question how enduring the “Unmanned Systems Forces“ model will be. It is eminently suitable for Ukraine right now, but it sort of reminds me of WW1-era Machine Gun Corps - a useful organization for training and doctrinal development that may fade as its weapon matures.

Quite a remarkable map, table, and diagram from a 1971 report on launch-on-warning, showing the implications of Soviet submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBM) on detection, reaction, deliberation, and response time. All numbers are in SECONDS, which is what I find the most wild about it.
Map of the USA labeled "Soviet SLBM [Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile] Time of Flight to SAC [Strategic Air Command] Targets." Shows both "nominal" and "depressed" trajectories. Absolute best (north central USA) is between 580 and 850 seconds (9.6 – 14 min). Absolute worst (everywhere else) is between 320 and 650 seconds (5.3 – 10.8 min). The variations are based on where they assume the subs are launching from. Table: "Early Warning System Performance." Shows four different systems (BMEWS, OTHF, SLBM Net, and a not-yet-operational in 1971 Boost-Phase Detection Satellite) that indicates the time of detection after launch (varies between 55 and 150 seconds; BMEWS cannot detect launches as it is only over-the-horizon radar), the time that the US command and control system would be alerted after launch (ranges from 85 seconds for the newest system to 900 seconds for BMEWs), the probably of detection of a single launch (BMEWS is 99%, SLBM Net is 50%, none of the others have probabilities), probably of detection for a mass launch (all around 100%), and their false alarm rate (BMEWS has 1 per 7 years, OTHF is 1 per 6 months, the others are unknown). Diagram: "National Command-Warning to Response Cycle." Shows the consequences of a launch detection all the way through the US nuclear infrastructure, with "delay times" in seconds. Will be discussed in the next post in this thread.
