The French police are so militarized they blew up a 15-yr-old’s hand and took the eye of another one. Why are grenades being used to quell student protestors who are unarmed? Now the labour unions are stepping in to protect the students

EXCLUSIVE: European countries that impose boycotts on Israel are 'antisemitic' and risk retaliatory sanctions from the United States, a senior Trump administration official has declared.
Speaking in Washington DC, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon criticised countries including the UK, France and Norway over measures targeting goods produced in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.Noa Hoffman @hoffman_noa
X.com
Responding to a question about the US government's position on European West Bank boycotts, Dhillon, who works in the Civil Rights division at the Department of Justice, said:
'What we call this in the United States is the
BDS movement. It is antisemitism. And I think every country that is doing that is going to risk, while President Trump is in power, retaliatory or corresponding sanctions potentially.'
She added: 'I think the President has said words to that effect. In the United States, there was an attempt to start trying to do this at the corporate level as well, and it's quickly been shut down overwhelming opposition from well-meaning people in our country... But I do consider BDS, and I think most people in my government consider it to be a form of antisemitism, and we call it as such.'

Man, imagine you're minding your own business, getting kind of drunk with your friends at a picturesque brewery in Maine, when suddenly John Roberts walks by and you get to start heckling him. Must have felt incredible. That's the dream. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
The chief justice used to preside over a Supreme Court whose members were afforded more privacy and freedom than many other public officials. Once, years ago, Mr. Lipson and the chief justice found themselves up the peninsula from Port Clyde without a car, Mr. Lipson recalled in an interview. So he stuck out his thumb by the side of the road and a pickup truck pulled over. He and the nation’s top jurist hopped in the back and hitchhiked back to town.

Now, Mr. Lipson said, he is cautious about introducing his friend to strangers. This year, on an outing to nearby Monhegan Island, people recognized the chief justice as he walked by a brewery and started to chant: You should be ashamed.

a thing I eventually realized is that a lot of institutions exist to reproduce preexisting hierarchies of wealth and race, for which the official role of the institution (such as the teaching and academic reputation) serves to justify that reproduction.

this whole thing is madness inducing but the middle paragraph here is the one that made me say "oh we're FUUUUUCKED fucked" out loud
Hill was willing to speak bluntly and on the record. But not every scientist I contacted felt able to do that. I called one Florida scientist who studies sea level rise to fact-check some of the agents' comments, but before we got very far, they asked not to be named. They explained that their current research depends on cooperation from county and municipal governments, which means they have to "tread very carefully" when speaking about real estate development in the
area.
That made sense to Hill. "If we get in the way of developers, their attorneys can go after us through our universities," she said. "It's not uncommonẠỊi
For the most part, she said, silence about climate risk in housing is incentivized. Because if climate risk tanks a property's value, she said,
"everyone's going to be pressuring everyone else not to talk about it."

I reach above me and pull down a file on
Guatemala. It is on the CIA coup of 1954. Why did the US destroy that small country? Because the landless movement and the Left fought to elect a democratic politician - Jacobo Árbenz - who decided to push through a moderate land reform agenda. Such a project threatened to undercut the land holding of the United Fruit Company, a US conglomerate that strangled Guatemala. The CIA got to work. It contacted retired Colonel Carlos Castillo Armas, it paid off brigade commanders, created sabotage events, and then seized Arbenz in the presidential palace and sent him to exile.
Castillo Armas then put Guatemala through a reign of terror. 'If it is necessary to turn the country into a cemetery in order to pacify it,' he said later, 'I will not hesitate to do so! The CIA gave him lists of Communists, people who were eager to lift their country out of poverty. They were arrested, many executed. The CIA offered Castillo Armas its benediction to kill; A Study of Assassination, the CIA's killing manual, was handed over to his butchers. The light of hope went out in this small and vibrant country.
