I swear...if the Dems tax policy their way "out" of the media crisis, we're all dead. Ultimately, we need stricter FCC rules about ownership concentration; forcing a fire-sale while we convert 50% of broadcast licenses to non-commercial. And prosecute obvious bribery & antitrust cases.

Just got rejected by a publisher that strung me along for an entire year. I'm kicking myself for thinking they could be a good home to a book that is anything but strictly reverential about "the Prophet."

It's like a religion to these people: "Some set of A.I.-enabled devices and processes would surely allow a hotel maid to clean more rooms faster with less hassle and physical strain." Motorized carts and more efficient vacuum cleaners relieve physical strain, not some mystical spreadsheet.

Very funny to me when these bookclub scammers just plug my responses into ChatGPT and come up with the most obsequious responses
A bookclub scammer to whom I replied “Eat shit” sent a follow up email that reads (in part, because it’s really long):

Colin,

Fair enough. I got your "eat shit" loud and clear, and honestly, I respect the directness.

But I want to clarify something, because I think my original email read like boilerplate SEO spam, and that’s on me.

I didn't pull your name from a random list. I came across Ghostland while I was digging into American folklore and the way abandoned places hold collective memory. I picked it up, read it, and genuinely found myself stuck on it, particularly the way you tied "zombie homes" and economic decay to the ghost story tradition. It wasn't what I expected, and it stayed with me.

The DCCC's recruitment (or seeding) of military veterans as centrist candidates gets more gross by the year. It's like they watched "Starship Troopers," and thought, "what a great idea: military service as a prerequisite for citizenship!"

True. One could have fear-mongered about the first two or three postdoc units to unionize. At this point, I would wager 20% or more of the nation's postdocs are covered by a collective bargaining unit. The fears have been effectively disproved by real world EXPERIENCE.

I organized postdocs at Rutgers and NJIT (successfully) and Stoney Brook (unsuccessfully). This reminds me of all the conversations that Professors would start about the auto industry, which I would shut down with a wry look and gesture across the lab: "Are we making cars here?"
