The film is written, directed, and co-stars Hitoshi Ozawa, a legendary Yakuza actor who is a villain in Yakuza 0, who got his fellow legends involved. This was his passion project inspired by one of his best friends, a trans woman, and he worked with the community for representative casting.

One-upping everything Gale says here! Also, learning how to interpret symbolism and visual shorthand from illustrations is a great way to develop discretion and literacy. If your problem with comics for kids is “they are reading fewer words” you should put more faith in the power of art & cartooning

Also, this is always worth repeating: graphic novels and picture books ARE wonderful on their own merits. They aren't just stepping stones. Prose is great, picture books are great, graphic novels are great. They all open doors and hearts. Let readers read!

Graphic novels are great for visual literacy! When you read comics, you're deciphering multiple visual and text-based cues. Readers can decode emotions, infer what happens between panels, observe how color choices can change our perception of a subject, and so much more. These are crucial skills.
