Every archaeology headline is like "oafs from Ghent Anthropological School of Dipshits stumble upon prehistoric temple and are left baffled" and then the actual story is like two guys with 14 PhDs between them doing 10 yrs of cutting edge research that changes our understanding of the Mediterranean.

Or - radical idea - employers should stop expecting new recruits to come to them fully-formed and trained in exactly what that organisation needs at the particular moment, and should actually train them. And yes I know NLW and employer NIC don't help. But neither will this.

a lot of people want to believe that right-wing beliefs are rooted in some legitimate material grievance. that makes it easier to imagine that if we simply solved the material problem, they’d deradicalize. but they won’t, because they aren’t disillusioned, they’re just morons.

If roughing up a girlfriend and locking her in a room was a virile, authentic a rejection of “smoothgroined” “HR lady” politics, but a rape is too far, then what’s at stake is not a principled rejection of violence against women but a cynical assessment of how much violence a man can get away with.

A really crucial source of these sexist & anti-feminist sentiments by left/liberal pundits is their insecurity that their soft-handed lives of white collar work mean that they're not real men. They think they can reconcile with masculinity through an aspiration to a kind of brutish, hostile sexism.

Reading a 1982 article by Susan Bolotin that's thought to have coined the term "post-feminism", and I'm
And I could never again think of myself as anything but a feminist. I did not know that younger women could. I did not know that ''feminism'' had become a dirty word. ''I don't label myself a feminist. Not for me, but for the guy next door that would mean that I'm a lesbian and that I hate men. It's very hard to get heard if you assume a label that's going to turn people off to you. And while it should not, of course, I am afraid that the lesbian connotation would affect my credibility with many of the people I want to reach.'' Diana Shaw, the 24-year-old co-author of a forthcoming book on decision making for adolescent girls, spoke with assurance. ''Think of the E.R.A. situation,'' she suggested. ''You had a distinct issue there, but the feminists brought along all these riders with it. The one that did them the most harm was lesbian rights.''

My friend's much flaunted conservative politics were about to let me off an uncomfortable matchmaking hook. ''I don't know any women who aren't feminists,'' I said. He was still laughing. ''Wrong. You think that this is an issue of conservative versus liberal, but it's not. If you'd just look around, you'd see that you're a throwback. Why would any woman today label herself a feminist?''

I have yet to set up a date for my colleague, and I probably never will. I don't like the way he talks about women, and all of my closest female friends - primarily women in their 30's - are feminists. But his comment has stayed with me. Are we nothing but the anomalies of a radical decade?

i think a lot of the backlash to "the male loneliness epidemic" narratives is that they're often disingenuous, they don't offer a solution and in the absence of that it's clear that the only thing they can mean is "women need to take responsibility for it by being less people"

It is a right-wing issue, a lot of men just don't want to admit their views, particularly when it comes to women, are right-wing. The solution to birth rate handwringing is using women's bodies to birth babies, then using their labor to raise them, through coercion or force, while men do very little
