So there's going to be a Lib Dem leadership challenge. It probably needed. I don't think the party needs much policy change, just a leader who can cut through and getting the message out. Ed's a nice guy, but I'm not sure he's the right person to lead the Lib Dems into the next election.

I was thinking (again) that in a bit more than a year, according to current rules, my wife will be able to apply for ILR. It would be good if the government could let us know if they intend to introduce the new minimum income for spouses to get ILR, and if they want to apply it retrospectively.

Polanski is far enough behind in Holborn & St Pancras that he would have known at conference that he wasn't going to win. That makes his decision to duck the "Zionism is Racism" debate look even weaker. The Greens need strong leadership, now more than ever, if they're to continue growing.

Some people will say the Holborn & St Pancras result shows that "Zionism is Racism" isn't a vote winner, and they're probably right. But I don't think that will trouble its supporters: it simply shows that the voters are wrong.

I'm the same age as Philip. For most of our lives, the government has *required* trans people to live as their preferred gender - including using toilets, changing rooms etc. - for two years before getting the official stamp of approval (e.g. to allow surgery). It never caused any problems.

The complete shambles that has been the "execution" of Christa Pike is a perfect example of why the death penalty is barbaric and is wholly about vengeance, not justice. Always baffles me when the pro-lifers are so rabidly in favour of state sanctioned murder on their own terms. Maybe God said no?
