long road ahead for whichever neo-Nazi Trump staffer is tasked with doing brain surgery on the AI-powered America-dot-gov site
A screenshot from America.gov showing a question and answer about tariffs.

Header: America.gov with a small U.S. flag and a "Menu" button.

Question in a light blue bubble: "Who pays for tariffs on goods being imported to America, American importers or foreign exporters?"

Answer text: "U.S. importers pay the tariff to the government. Foreign exporters do not pay U.S. Customs.

• When goods enter the United States, the importer of record is legally responsible for any duty. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
• CBP collects that duty at the port of entry. CBP: customs duty
• A tariff is a tax on imported goods. Who ultimately bears the cost in prices (importer, U.S. buyer, or foreign seller) depends on the market; that is separate from who must pay CBP. BLS

Duty rates come from the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. CBP makes the final determination of what is owed."America.gov Menu Who in America is entitled to due process? The U.S. Constitution says the government may not deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. The Fifth Amendment applies that rule to the federal government. The Fourteenth Amendment applies the same rule to state governments. Official annotations treat this as covering persons, not only citizens. Congress’s Constitution Annotated also notes that people already present in the United States—including those whose presence is unlawful, involuntary, or transitory—are entitled to due process protection in that setting. What process is required depends on the situation; that is decided case by case. Sources: National Archives; Constitution Annotated (Fifth Amendment procedure); Constitution Annotated (aliens who have entered).

Yes, yes we are pushing back.
Publishers Push Back: The NYT, Chicago Tribune, and other publishers are asking a federal judge to disregard the Trump Justice Department’s defense of OpenAI in a landmark copyright case, suggesting the administration may have been influenced by “political and financial interests.” The move came after the DOJ filed a brief earlier this month backing OpenAI’s use of copyrighted news articles to train A.I. models qualifies as “fair use,” arguing that restricting A.I. development could hurt U.S. competitiveness. The publishers countered that the government’s position is separate from the copyright questions before the court. “By all measures, this Statement of Interest appears to be an effort to further enrich the world’s largest companies—and the Administration’s largest donors—while undermining this country’s free press,” a spokesperson for The NYT said in a statement.

Excellent discussion on the politics podcast, Oh God What Now about the dispiriting speech from Chancellor John Healy. Many Labour MPs fetishise reindustrialisation, misunderstand the working class are now working in services, refuse to see universities as vital to economy of our towns + cities
Part of transcript from podcast 'Oh God What Now'
"Actually, I'm really pleased you mentioned universities there, because the way that politicians of all parties, but particularly the Labour Party, talk about the loss of jobs in steel or fishing or manufacturing, versus the complete disregard they have for the fact that the UK's world leading higher education sector is on the brink of collapse for all kinds of interlocking reasons, and the assumption that the universities will just get on with it and they're woke jobs anyway. In many of these post-industrial parts of the country, the university is the big driver of good jobs, and the combination of student finance and money from the government and international students and all that, they are really, really struggling. And you never hear a Labour politician go out and say, we've got to fight for our university sector the way they say, we've got to fight for our steel sector.
Yeah, you get job losses of 2,000, of 500 at universities, and it's never mentioned. You get a job loss of 200 in some manufacturing plants, and it leads to the national news, and every minister responds. And nostalgia is going to kill us if we don't actually address”

If you are going to end the triple lock, you’re better off just ending it. Talking about a process of maybe ending it in the next Parliament, following some sort of review, feels like a way of minimising the fiscal saving while maximising the political pain.

Michael Weiss: Why, that’s Ali Abdelaziz is on the far left. Manages a lot of Russian, Belarusian and Chechen MMA fighters including Khamzat Chimaev, who is close to Kadyrov. Abdelaziz was an FBI informant until the Bureau dropped him because they suspected he was a double agent. Looks like Ka$h (far right) has forgiven and forgotten.
