We will be able to say the Right has fixed itself when 'mainstream' Rightists stop giving Liz Truss air time. We are still quite some way from that.

For those of us who remember David Campbell Bannerman's and David Davis's early-2016 calls for 'a Canada-style relationship' with the EU, it would be deeply funny if Canada now moved much closer to the EU and the UK Govt then pushed for.... 'a Canada-style relationship'. (Won't happen, but still.)

To be clear, I don't think the election will double as an EU membership question that a reelected Labour Govt could then use to go ahead rejoin without a proper subsequent referendum. There will have to be a referendum. Anything less will haunt our renewed membership.

It's possible the next general election has just become another referendum on the EU.

Remarkable that the Telegraph is not screaming this morning about Burnham's pledge of a closer/rejoining EU relationship because Brexit has failed.

I'm normally quite a stoic but I can be similarly roused by a brilliantly moving speech. Well, that and 70 Up. And Long Lost Family. And DIY SOS. And the end of E.T where the little guy's spaceship creates a rainbow streak across the sky....

"We have to be honest. Brexit has not given us control" - less control on economy, less control on immigration. "Brexit has done more harm than good" He praises Mahmood on boats (& net migration, which fell by 2025) and thanks those who have come to contribute (ie: will soften settlement)

Meanwhile, the hare is up and running, in both the US & UK, that 'terrorists have been released on bail' (with a side order of 'two-tier justice, what about 'Tommo'?' nonsense) and will no doubt lodge in section of public memory (along with e.g. 'cat prevents deportation' that still does the rounds)

The stupidest suggestion in Britain right now is that Reform supporters are also the country's best critical thinkers. No, they make their first observation their conclusion. Genuine critical thinkers make the same first observation but they then delve several layers deeper in search of truth.

Farage posted this at 12.38 today. It has been hopelessly overtaken by events and shown to be entirely wrong (British nationals involved and they've been released on bail - not very terrorist-like). And if you believe anything Trump says, you are a credulous moron.

This is…very much not in line with Donald Trump's comments last night. Which could get interesting later. The investigation is still ongoing, of course. But the fact police have given bail does seriously change things.

This will not end until America realises it can't win and retreats. And it may still not end there, but it might become more of a cold war; an uneasy but just-about-workable truce.

Even the GB News presenter is thrown by his guest's suggestion that all asylum seekers be castrated. This is what happens when the narrative marches ever rightwards. It drifts out of everyone's control and requires individuals involved to suddenly realise 'no wait, f***, that's mad'.
