I have a soft spot for any episode that feels like Gene Roddenberry's cousin just closed a community theater production of "Antony & Cleopatra" and called him up like
"I'm downstairs right now with five boxes of costumes in the trunk of my car can you take them off my hands"

I’m fascinated by the fact that Trump talks as if he has **literally** never heard the word affordability before, which maybe he hasn’t! He’s always been rich, he never had to afford things. But talking to a crowd of Joe Magahats as if he expects them to agree seems very “let them eat cake”

Flatly stating “don’t vote for Dems because they suck on trans issues… Republicans are fine though” seems like it’s kinda giving the game away.

You want to stay home forever? I HATE that, but sure, that's an opinion that isn't just an over lie. But "Republicans are better on rights issues" is so false that it can only be lies. Probably opportunistic lies for some kind of grift. No one could *possibly* believe that.

The Time interview with Trump is a master class in subjecting yourself to a stream of lies, lunacy, and insults with no correcting him, no calling out his crazy shit, nothing to show for it, nothing accomplished. It’s enabling, not journalism. They should die of shame. time.com/article/2026...

I sound paranoid when I say this, but I believe there are vast, powerful, and extremely well-funded forces within the US that exist mostly to try to keep Democrats from moving too far left.

There are two things to learn from this: 1) Third Way gets to present what the Democratic Caucus plans will be because they're the ones inside the room making them; 2) Dem staffers often don't realize that they're wholly captured by this centrist consultant-industrial complex. It's fish in water.

Eventually, the guy told me that they're always looking for new voices to present to the Dem caucus, and I should send recommendations. I, of course, sent in recommendations of prominent progressive strategists, communicators and pollsters. Never once saw my recommendations get to present, though.

The expression I got back would have reminded you of Tucker Carlson interviewing anyone--that expression that you'd make when someone was eating a jar of raw mayonnaise in front of you and you just don't know how to react to that situation. The "I don't know how to react to that" face.

After maybe the third or fourth one of these, I asked the person in charge of it (who wasn't from Pelosi's office, the Member in charge of this was a different position) why it was that an organization whose very name says that Dems are wrong got to run the strategy sessions for the Dem caucus.

Story time. My wife's post here reminds me of one of my favorite stories from my time on the Hill, of which there are many. I was in Comms for a Dem member, and the Caucus would put on a weekly talking points seminar for comms staffers. More often than not, these were run by Third Way.

A victory for the government in this case would greenlight long-term mass civil detention at a level not seen since Japanese internment during WWII. It would represent the largest change in how the US treats immigrants facing removal since 1996, and remind us again that the 96 law must be erased.

This will be one of the most important immigration cases in a generation. The Trump admin claims that a 1996 law mandates the detention of millions of people without any right to a bond hearing; every person who entered illegally, no matter how long in the past. If they win, it's a nightmare.

This could well be an example of the blowback I’ve predicted from conservatives abandoning their decades-long media strategy of propagandizing to mainstream liberal voters by producing “liberal media” that we would watch, that would also sorta pretend to be on our side.

I've been covering the death penalty in depth for a dozen years now, and few nights have been as disturbing and dispiriting as tonight. This was a moral, ethical, and legal failure on several different fronts from many different actors. It wasn't *just* SCOTUS, though they sure were a key part.

After SCOTUS allowed Tennessee execution to go ahead, Tennessee botched the execution
SCOTUS, over the liberals’ dissent, cleared the way for Tennessee to kill Christa Pike. The alarming order from DC was followed by even more disturbing developments in Tennessee.

there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

Maybe no one is more hated than women who resist rape. I’ve come to believe that women who have been, as I was, “public survivors” have a responsibility not to flinch in these face of this hate. I have a lot of rage about that time, but I don’t have any shame.
