There's tragedy and irony in there, and it would be incorrect to remember him as a Nazi, but calling him anti-nazi should come with an asterisk that this commitment was minimal

All of this to say, he was not anti-nazi out of an intellectual commitment to building a just, ethical society. He was anti Nazi because he was Jewish and he resigned in protest when the writing was on the wall that neither he nor his Jewish colleagues could continue their careers.

The conversion to Lutheranism was when he was young but the commitment to chemical warfare was lifelong. Even during the Weimar Republic, he used the pretense of pest control to continue chemical weapons research and skirt the bans imposed by the Treaty of Versailles.

X-Pac Heat is a real phenomenon. I do think if, like, Apple put this out, people would be like, "I don't know why they're doing Monster Jam stunts at Apple events now, but cool." If Musk is doing Monster Jam stunts, it's justifiably "What the fuck is this? I preordered this car 10 years ago."

This is correct. To the extent that he was anti Nazi, it was too little, too late. He thought by converting to Lutheranism and committing to the German war machine he would be spared and keep his career.

Ludicrous framing here from @nytimes.com. No serious Dems ever thought these would be slam dunks. And it's premature to let a centrist group get in a self-interested shot like this before we even know if these candidates will actually fare worse in the elections than other ones. Indefensible.

Our internet, how we get all of our information, now has banned using the word "sex" without writing it like "s*x" but our kids are being inundated with people falling off rollercoasters, being mauled by Tigers, and jumping off buildings. It creates a culture afraid of people but in love with death.

It does appear the "data center eliminated Nazi and otherwise fuckface bots" narrative is basically wishcasting, it does show you how popular getting rid of this shit would broadly be, and that maybe a smart person should run on it.

Main thing I’ve gotten from this trip to Europe is that a lot of leftwing discourse — “content” — on social media is not a good use of people’s time A lot of “call out” and not enough of “being in community”

Data centers becoming targets in the war between Ukraine and Russia will expose one of the fatal limitations of LLMs in war: they rely on large, stationary installations which in turn rely on massive amounts of external fuel and water. They are big fucking targets that can't be easily moved.

The plan: Build a 200-room, 300-bathroom data center, 70% subsidized by federal and local governments. Make it accessible to the train. Build a supermarket for the 800 people doing 24/7 on-site maintenance. Call it the future of technology. Make OpenAI pay for the rest. Then let people move in.

E.B. White established this in 1949! Move on already!
Screenshot from E.B. White's essay "Here is New York": "There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter —the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last— the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York's high-strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness; natives give it solidity and continuity; but the settlers give it passion."
