"A Night at the Opera" and "Duck Soup" were instrumental films in my childhood so much so that I was Harpo for halloween in kindergarten. Groucho is the first face on Mount Rushmore of American comedy. An icon.

Time for MLB to embrace tradition: No divisions, just the American League and the National League. Take the top four (at most!) from each league, and that’s your playoffs. Best-of-five opening round, best-of-seven for pennant, and best-of-seven World Series.

Mike is right about this because the most annoying aspect of the "baseball needs runs" idea is that the solution is always to move fences in. Now we no longer have power alleys. Average doubles and triples have declined since the 2000s. Bring back power alleys! Need roomier ballparks!

John Harbaugh explains Giants' decision to release Odell Beckham Jr.: 'It just wasn't working for us'
Giants head coach John Harbaugh said releasing Odell Beckham Jr. came down to doing what was “best for the team,” while denying that the attention the veteran wide receiver was receiving played any factor in the move.

Some players said there was a lack of fire at times... that can galvanize a team through difficult stretches. Blaze Alexander: "... I feel like we were all waiting for it to happen, waiting for all of us to figure it out, instead of coming together, naming the issues and addressing it from there."

Adley Rutschman, who went 2-for-20 in his five postseason games with the Orioles, singles on the 10th pitch of his first at-bat for the Red Sox. Please, David M. Rubenstein, author of "Inside the Owner's Box: Conversations on Power and Leadership in Sports," fire people and start over.

Looking at how weak the American League is and the looming lockout, man, it is hard to come away with anything but utter disgust at how the last four seasons of Orioles baseball turned out. When you talk about missing the moment, that's Mike Elias in Baltimore. Crushing.

The number of seats in American sports stadiums being converted to "social spaces" is so alarming to me. And the writing is on the wall that the long-term health of sports in this country is very bad. Prognosis negative.

There honestly might be a non-insignificant subset of people in and around football who would advocate punting on every 3rd-and-long because it might become 4th-and-longer, or you might turn it over by being risky trying to get all those yards on one play.

Buck Showalter comparing himself to Andy Rooney is perfect. Baseball "60 Minutes" would absolutely slap. Gonna spend the rest of the night thinking about correspondents for this: Buck, Tim Kurkjian, Joe Posnanski. A 12-minute segment on the 4-6-3 double-play.

Jayden Daniels, who presumably will need season-ending elbow surgery, didn't even make it to the Commanders' home opener in his comeback season. Washington's franchise QB may go (at least) 679 days between home starts. Brutal for those fans.

To put a bow on this: The Orioles were 76-81 on the day owner David M. Rubenstein's book "Inside the Owner's Box: Conversations on Power and Leadership in Sports" was released. O's are 36-31 since my post. Pete Alonso: 22 HR, 50 RBI, .283/.382/.578 .960 OPS in those 67 games!

Let the firings begin!!!! The Orioles should let Pete Alonso serve as player-manager for the final three games of the season.

Ben Krimmel @benkrimmel.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
So, the Orioles are still (somehow) alive for the 3rd AL Wild Card spot. Baltimore's really unlikely path is pretty much: O's go 3-0 at Yankees White Sox go 0-4 (1 at KC, 3 vs COL) AND Rangers go 2-2 or worse (1 vs Mets, 3 at Twins), or Astros lose at least 2 (winning at SEA right now, 4 at A's)

Some of the players were in the tunnel, and the manager had to remind them to come onto the field to thank the fans after the final home game? YIKES. That's not the team spirit you want. But good on the skipper and Pete Alonso for doing this. Boy, is Alonso the exact leader the Orioles needed

Former Maryland WR Torrey Smith sounds like Uncle Baby Billy telling Terps fans they can't complain about another meh Mike Locksley season loading cause these NIL coffers are running dry. You can't get the salvation of a winning season unless you call the number on your screen right now.
Torrey Smith post on social media:

Maryland fans need to make your expectations for program match the NIL budget.

We are lucky that relationships kept the talented guys that we do have.

The emotions are completely overboard for one loss.

Chill out and stop asking stupid questions

My dad put this together recently: Orioles’ record each year from age 5-18 for me, my brother and him. Especially brutal for me: 1997-2010, one winning season and 13 losers. With today’s loss the years since make it 8 winning and 8 losing, but with just 1 playoff series win in that time

Pete Alonso looks at three straight pitches and doesn't use a challenge on strike three, which is well below the zone. (Nobody on and one out in the sixth, but still, Pete, that isn't even close to a strike...)
