hopefully a longer essay about this later, but it's striking how familiar the situation of the japanese public during the russo-japanese war is. no at home experiences the war directly: they learn about it via what they read. and they are extremely active, extremely angry, and extremely misinformed.

Yes! What we’re seeing is the spread of a pervasive social norm where constant lurid expressions of misery and pessimism are de rigueur. People can’t see it because they’re part of it. But it’s obvious when you talk to groups who have every reason to be pessimistic, and they don’t have it.

i had to cut it for length, but the main argument against "we need wealth taxes to lower wealth inequality" is that there's no historical evidence of wealth taxes lowering wealth inequality to any meaningful degree at any point in time anywhere in the world it's just kind of begging the question

In fairness to the P90, it's still in production & active service around the world. I don't disagree with the Doctor's assessment that the AR-15 design has become the Rav4 & Prius of gun designs, but alternatives still exist. Kind of like the Range Rover and Fusion.
