The @ptrrupprecht.bsky.social lab uses a really cool approach combining neuromodulator imaging, optogenetics, and two-photon calcium imaging to determine how locus coeruleus-mediated norepinephrine signaling influences different hippocampal cell types, including #astrocytes.

With a motivating push from @christlet.bsky.social I made a new Fiji plugin, CurveMorph. The idea was to create a tool for kymograph generation along the dynamic (bending/shaking) filament shapes (microtubules, cilia, neurites, etc). The logo was made using the plugin. github.com/UU-cellbiolo...

We were struggling with wiggling neurites on our long term imaging data and the poor existing plugins to deal with them, until I thought "let's ask Eugene about it". Lo and behold, he just made the perfect plugin for dynamic kymograph generation!

Mammalian membranes are thought to universally avoid macroscopic solidification, as reduced fluidity impairs plasticity and protein function. Cells counter this via lipid unsaturation and cholesterol buffering. However, the ER is deliberately cholesterol-poor to maintain high-curvature membranes!/5
