Is anyone working for Nikon on here?? You really need to get them to understand the impact this is having on their brand. We loved the image contests--they are great PR for science and microscopy--but this is seriously damaging that reputation.

"embrace slop to create things that do not exist from a sample that was probably donated by some kid with the premise of studying their disease" Conflating AI and genAI on purpose is loser behavior and Nikon Small World will always have that label to me 🧪
A screencap from the interview where the researcher says"

His advice to other researchers considering entering the competition is straightforward: “Take care of the sample, use as little light as possible when working with living cells, and embrace AI to reveal the hidden beauty in your data. Most importantly, keep recording. The best moment usually appears right after you decide to stop.”

- received peer review comments that seemed AI generated
- important email from a colleague that was riddled with banal LinkedIn-ese and must also be LLM-generated

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.
