Whenever people say to me “what do you think about manchesterism” I try to say the same thing. Do you mean the narrative, or what Manchester did? Because they’re not the same. (Also stop sending me reports about manchesterism)

The current situation though is an unforced error. If you sell Manchester as your entire narrative blueprint for PM, without appreciating the incoherencies in your message or reconciling the inconveniences, moments like this will bite you. And Manchester. The city quickly becomes collateral damage.

I find the way the City/Burnham stuff affects Manchester deeply frustrating. Not because the city’s future relies on City - it doesn’t. Personally I don’t think Manchester is so reliant on a particular club ownership that it won’t prosper without it.

Why are “the camps” a reprehensible threat when levied at Aaron but perfectly fine when levied at trans women?

this is useful context and also absolutely indicative of why this is a mess because the only reasonable conclusion I can draw from what's stated here is "when Aaron wants something posted and the comms team doesn't, he just posts it himself" and, like WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A COMMS TEAM FOR

I was going to say, "didn't he say if was fine to tell people to 'enjoy the camps'?" I didn't expect it to be LITERALLY THE SAME THREAD. Is "it's all fine as long as it isn't to us" literally company policy wtf???

It's so funny that he just blocked everyone who said "enjoy the camps" to him, right after he posted saying that "enjoy the camps" doesn't break any rules, and right before he posted about how moderation news comes from his personal account, not the official one. Bluesky is a well-run website.

If your direct response to our enforcing on our community guidelines to make the folks on here safer is to lash out and say that moderators should be sent to concentration camps - maybe you need to reassess your priors but you aren't making this place safer with that attitude.

i am again going to politely entreat on you to stop posting about any policy anything without running it past your comms team.
as politely as possible, you are not actually capable of being appropriately objective, which you *should* be when talking about policy

Yes I've tried that and we then don't post anything. See nearly any post from the safety account as an example.
Users keep demanding policy explanations daily and then make up their own random stories when there's usually an objective and repeatable process on our end (since we train mods).

this is why, again, i do not think this information should be coming from your personal account and should be going through moderation@ with PR and comms approval. i get that you want to treat this as a small/bespoke platform but it does not function for this

I am not very worried about about the Tory Tapestry’s misuse of “doth”. What worries me much more is this sequence of panels which seems to show a small boat full of brown-skinned people followed by a plague of rats running riot and then a lot of dead white people labelled tax payers.
Detail from Conservative Party mock Bayeux Tapestry showing 1. A boat full of brown skinned people. 2. Enormous rats chasing cats. 3. White-skinned “tax payers” dead in the streets.

That's what gets me about all of these abusers. Not one of them thinks to give up their platform and cease putting themselves in positions where they can have power to abuse again. It just doesn't occur to them, and if asked the response is usually "Oh you want me to STARVE?!"

The reason i wanted an 'office job' was because of how physically difficult and personally isolating farming was. Physical labour breaks your body too soon. Blue collar, trade, outdoor and craft jobs (i have the latter now) are hard physical work and they will break you, low wages or no.

The British class system in literature hits peak bewilderingness around 1870-1930, because you have basically modern characters. There's an early Nevil Shute novel where I swear the plot revolves around whether a young middle class man and woman can marry when one is upper-lower and one lower-upper.

In the age of technology, we all expect that every conversation will be recorded. But that isn’t true. A lot of records come from the recollections of someone in a position of power. And we know that investigators—including police and Title IX—severely overestimate the amount of false allegations.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

Is your brain full of mind vampires?
A comic all in red, depicting a man with a cut out of his brain with a vampire skulking inside of it.
Big text at the top says "is your brain full of mind vampires? you are not alone."
The vampire says "bleh! bleh! I am 2000 years old. Bleh! your only desire now is to find my amulet."
The man says "Dang, gotta find that amulet."

Further text at the bottom says "there is no cure for mind vampires but there is support and management. Know the warning signs, get help early."

It’s 170 years since 10,000 people in South Carolina honoured their Congressman with a public dinner. That’s nice, isn’t it? People so rarely respect politicians these days. Unfortunately, they were showing their support for him beating an abolitionist almost to death with his cane
Bizarre monument (in the form of a blue plaque on a post at a street corner), with white text which reads: PRESTON BROOKS DINNER National attention was focused here on Oct. 3, 1856, when some 10,000 people honored Preston S. Brooks, Congressman from this district, with a public dinner in vindication of his assault on Charles Sumner of Massachusetts on the Senate floor for a speech insulting to this state. The Preston Brooks home was five miles south on Highway 246. ERECTED BY NINETY SIX CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
