What on earth is happening?

This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

How would things change? Transparency International UK has made a tool to model the potential impact of donation caps on political party finances. Setting a donation cap of £50,000 per year, you can see the impact of reducing big-money donations. At the same time, there would still be sufficient funding for political parties to campaign effectively and fairly, without a need for additional public funds. It is now time to create such a level playing field.

Comparing today's assisted dying bill vote to the last time MPs voted (June 2025), turnout was key. Only 5 MPs look to have actively switched their vote (all from yes to no). But among those who voted no in June 2025, 15 didn't vote this time. Among those who had voted yes it was 43.
