An ignoble fellow. Full-time writer and lifelong europhile. Hoping to rejoin the EU and see Trump and Putin get their comeuppances. That Musk is a wrong'un too... Oxford, UK.

I’ve reached the point - well actually, I reached it a while ago - where I’m militantly anti-AI. Fine - use it in bioscience labs and radiology where it might help analyse data more effectively. Use it sparingly for systems engineering. Everywhere else, it can fuck off.

RIP Dolly Parton.

Never met her, never interviewed her (despite decades of unrequited requests) but thought she was utterly fabulous in every way.

Honestly, making a child a symbol for how Our Kids are Over-Medicated and not even having the decency to stop using him that way when it turns out he did, actually, benefit from and need the medication is horrible, dishonest behaviour.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.
A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.

Oops. We developed new technologies as if we were communists believe that they would reduce human toil, and create conditions for flourishing lives. But actually they dominate us, alienate us from each other, reduce us to servants to machines, and diminish our creativity, just as Marx noted in 1844.

The problem with Today is not the race of the presenters. It's that they are chronically under-briefed. The advantage of having Mishal Husain was not that she was brown. It was that she was well-briefed. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

‘Four white presenters feels retro’ – is the BBC Today programme doomed?
With bosses at the BBC prioritising social media platforms over radio, things feel apocalyptic at the broadcaster’s flagship news show – especially given the lack of diversity. Is this it?
