Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.
ICE vehicle - black Nissan Maxima with plate cover - posted up in a spot that also serves as an elementary school bus stop. Another ICE vehicle, black Dodge Durango, lurking around the community. Two more ICE vehicles - black Dodge Durango and a white SUV, unclear on make, model - on a quiet residential street, being quietly creepy. Note that the white SUV has its plate covered. Yet another ICE vehicle. Black Nissan Pathfinder. They were all over the neighborhood.

By the statements of the very people constructing these machines and driving this political project, that project will fail, or at least be severely hampered, if people do not adopt LLMs fast enough; which seems like a sufficient grounds to encourage such rejection. Thus also data center protest.

Rejecting LLMs isn’t about rejecting their utility or failing to be aware of their power —it’s about rejecting that political project; born out of an awareness that any use of these machines at all promulgates that project and assembles me into adjacent responsibility for its commission.

We should be paying a lot more attention to the fact that our bombing targets in Iran seem primarily to be civilian water storage and desalination facilities, which of course is a war crime, and we are going to be responsible for tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of deaths from dehydration.

Amazing! ICE kills a man ~7:30 am. 1st news report is an hour later. ~1:30 pm, a group of 𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 marches in Main Street and "storms into the Biddeford office of [U.S.] Sen. Susan Collins." Would be hard to do in NYC. Biddeford pop. = 22,000! www.pressherald.com/2026/07/13/s...
As the crowd marched down Main Street and gathered outside Sen. Collins’ Biddeford office, about a dozen people made it inside the entryway, chanting “Vote her out!” and banging their fists on the office’s locked doors.

Staffers inside could be seen on the phone as the crowd grew. Minutes later, five Biddeford police officers pushed through the entryway and placed themselves between protestors and the door.

“This is your fault Susan!” one man shouted.

“You're a fascist!” another person yelled at the officers.

The crowd dissipated and began marching back toward Mechanics Park after chanting at and heckling the officers.

Police did not answer questions about whether Collins’ staffers called 911 on protestors.

Ok. So this is reason #769 why I don't want Vichy Klobuchar as our Minnesota Governor. - via Twitter
Amy Klobuchar Tweet: It was a shock this morning to find out that my friend Lindsey Graham has died. He was a man who loved his work, his country, and his family. He didn’t have an easy life growing up and to me that explained a lot about him as well as his devotion to his remaining family members including his sister. It also explained his almost kid-like exuberance about his job and the responsibilities he was given (even in his sixties he would get off a plane in a foreign land with a twinkle in his eye and look at me as if to say, can you believe we are actually here and doing this?).Lindsey was loyal to friends and causes. He was willing to work on gnarly issues and take on (at times) political risks for the right reasons. It is fitting that he died shortly after visiting Ukraine, one of those causes he would stand up for through thick and thin.

Much will be said in the coming days about his relationships with others—President Trump and John McCain for instance—but what can’t be forgotten is the reason why so many people he worked with—from senators to staff—will mourn his loss: Lindsey had a zest for life and the Senate that made you want to get to work on a bill with him or at least debate him. He brought joy to his job.Lindsey was loyal to friends and causes. He was willing to work on gnarly issues and take on (at times) political risks for the right reasons. It was about his love for the world, his loyalty to hard causes and his friends, and the pure joy he brought to life. I will miss him.
