This part - there's no paid staff, there's no marketing budget, this is all just people helping each other out. Dollars and items go directly out to where there is need.

Please help. People's needs always increase this time of year but this year is even greater than usual, and when we run out of tents people are sleeping unsheltered. Finances are tight for everyone but how far are any of us from homelessness?
Weeknight drop-ins have tripled we are tired and out of money. Please donate via the links in our bio so we can continue to support unhoused people. We cannot keep up with the demand caused by current situations in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, we need financial support.$18K would allow us to give out additional $0.10 weekly (tent tarp sleeping bag hygiene kit undies) per week through February. Please help 😢

Please pause a minute and consider how much money municipalities spend on displacing and hurting people, destroying what few possessions they have (including ID documents and in-process paperwork for help), disconnecting them from community and aids to climb out of their situation... 1/3

In Minnesota, girls sell lemonade on the street to help their sisters arrested by ICE. Stephen Miller’s goons are very much still here. Sign reads, “Please help us raise money for my sisters because they were arrested by ICE” & this has been confirmed by trusted community members.

There is no end to the harassment faced by our unhoused neighbors. Soon many of our neighbors will lose their only source of shelter. The Supply Depot helps as many as they can, but they will need additional funds to help people displaced by the upcoming evictions.

The Bond Between and AHS’s programs have such long waitlists…and truly, nobody wants to or separated from their pet or their human partner. I’d rather take an alley or a tent and stay together than split up at night (or for months with the temp pet housing)

Tapping the sign
Does Housing First work?
There is a large and growing evidence base demonstrating that Housing First is an effective solution to homelessness. Consumers in a Housing First model access housing faster and are more likely to remain stably housed. This is true for both PSH and rapid re-housing programs. PSH has a one-year housing retention rate of up to 98 percent. Studies have shown that rapid re-housing helps people exit homelessness quickly—in one study, an average of two months-and remain housed. A variety of studies have shown that between 75 percent and 91 percent of households remain housed a year after being rapidly re-housed.More extensive studies have been completed on
PSH finding that clients report an increase in perceived levels of autonomy, choice, and control in Housing First programs. A majority of clients are found to participate in the optional supportive services provided, often resulting in greater housing stability. Clients using supportive services are more likely to participate in job training programs, attend school, discontinue substance use, have fewer instances of domestic violence, and spend fewer days hospitalized than those not participating. Finally, permanent supportive housing has been found to be cost efficient. Providing access to housing generally results in cost savings for communities because housed people are less likely to use emergency services, including hospitals, jails, and emergency shelter, than those who are homeless. One study found an average cost savings on emergency services of $31,545 per person housed in a Housing First program over the course of two years. Another study showed that a Housing First program could cost up to $23,000 less per consumer per year than a shelter program.

You don’t get to say ‘ICE Out’ during the height of the occupation by the federal government and then support policy that hands ICE more people to deport. Pick one.

The goal of a harm-reduction approach like this is to explore options. NOT requiring sobriety to qualify for housing assistance is relatively new, demonstrably more effective at helping both homelessness AND substance use disorder, and has made it clear that Housing First is crucial to recovery.

This is NOT to say that people are actually using it on drugs. I'd say even anecdotally that is far from the majority. But if it's going to happen and you're morally opposed to that, please know that's still better than the alternative.

While I need us to always challenge the narrative, every day, that homeless people have substance use disorders, I also need us to acknowledge the ways in which, when those do intersect, it is more complicated than that shallow and dismissive narrative also.

People associate drugs with homelessness partly because they're told to, because it makes it easier to throw people away and dismiss the problem, but also for the same reason people associate accumulated garbage with homeless people - there's nowhere to hide it. Housed people just do drugs inside.

To say that our city is not going to have encampments requires us to first say that we have an alternative plan in place to ensure that every single person who currently lives in an encampment will receive the housing and support that they need.

This is NOT how we treat our neighbors. No one involved has been able to answer what "alternative housing" will be available for the people they are intentionally displacing in preparation for a Minnesota winter. Shelters are full, and not every shelter is suited for every person... Please help 💕💸
We need to buy 200 tent sets. St. Paul is evicting the biggest encampment in the city. Can you help by donating? Sanctuary Supply Depot is a fiscally sponsored project of GMCC, (EIN 41-0693933) a Minnesota non-profit corporation that is described in internal revenue code section 501(c)(3)Pig's Eye Park has been a stable encampment for years. People will lose everything. We have been offered access to warehouse space so we can order wholesale pallets of tents, sleeping bags, and tarps to meet needs following the eviction. To make this happen, we need to raise $15,000 by next week. Can you share? Can you donate? Links in bio. I worry about connect drugs and homelessness in a way that could conflate them, but the Supply Depot takes a harm reduction approach to a lot of things and that includes drug use, so it's worth bringing up! Heat makes ODs more likely, so being extra aware is good.

If you're able to drive around for a bit today, grab a bunch of cold water bottles (or even better, frozen!) and hand them out to people signing at traffic lights. People can use it frozen next to their body as a personal AC and then drink it when it thaws!
It's Hot - how to support unhoused folks in a heat waveHand out - frozen water bottles, chilled water bottles, Powerade brand freeze pops, Powerade or Gatorade Other things that help - bus tokens or money for metro fare, cups or ziplock bags of ice, fresh fruit (soft fruit like bananas, cuties, watermelon is preferable).
