Three panel comic. Panel 1: a man is standing in front of an older gentleman walking his dog in the park. The man, making a friendly gesture towards the little white dog, asks, “does he bite?” The older man replies, “no.” Panel 2: the little dog grabs the first man’s hand with his paw and gives the back of his hand a sensual smooch. Panel 3: the man pulls his hand back in disgust.

Got blocked for pointing out that Christopher Nolan does not believe it's wrong to watch his movies in a non IMAX setting. So just for posterity, here's four different times through the years where he's said that. The whole snobby British director schtick is an internet invention.
'Well, do you have a problem with people seeing
'Dunkirk' on my phone or whatever?'' Nolan asked himself before answering, "No, I don't. But the reason I don't is because it's put into these big theaters as its primary form, or its initial distribution. And the experience trickles down, to the extent where, if you have an iPad and you're watching a movie, you carry with you the knowledge and your understanding of what that cinematic experience would be and you extrapolate that. So when you watch a TV show on your iPad, your brain is in a completely different mindset."The truth is, I'm a child of the home video age. I grew up with VHS, and the birth of VHS, and watching films at home. And I discovered some of my favorite films... like Blade Runner, I first watched a grainy pirate VHS tape. There was a terrific article that M. Night Shyamalan wrote some years ago in one of the trades where he was talking about the theatrical experience, and how it filters down to every version of the film that people see. So yes, the economics of the movie business - my entire life, and before I was born - have been that more people, numerically, may wind up seeing your film on television. And these days, you know, right down to phones and things like that. But the equation doesn't change, which is, you shoot the film in the best way possible. You present it in the absolute best way possible. And that experience trickles down to these other formats.
Christopher Nolan approves of people watching his films on tiny screens. "I'm very much in favor and in awe of the easy access that we have now to films to be able to immerse ourselves in films and film history," he told 60 Minutes.If it's possible, that's the best way to see the film. But yeah, I mean, I started making films.
I mean, I'm a child of the VHS era.
You know, videotapes at home and
everything. And so most of the films I've seen in my life have been at home or on a TV or a computer or whatever. So it's not that, you know, an enormous number of people are going to see the film that way.
And we take a lot of care about transferring the film and making all those versions as good as they can be. But I think for any film, particularly for the Odyssey, really, you know, it's about trying to have an experience. And the best way to have that experience is to try and find a movie theater and go and enjoy it.

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7
11:42 AM • 6/25/26 • 670K ViewsJill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

My polite and effective way of saying this is this screenshot and a heavy handed but gentle stare at…quite a few of you.
post from tumblr:
I need a polite and effective way to say "hey your heart is truly in the right place and your anger is often righteous but I think sometimes you're getting recreationally mad about things that are frankly not worth the amount of energy you're spending on them, and every time you do this you're driving yourself slightly more insane with nothing to show for it," and then I need a way to broadcast that message through a loudspeaker to roughly 30,000 people at once, and THEN I need a time machine to send that message to my past self lol. and maybe a second time machine in case past me tries to be clever and sabotage the version of me who comes through the first Time Machine
