What determines how epithelial cells divide when shape cues disappear? Our new work in @natcomms.nature.com shows that divisions follow maximal stress anisotropy — a “principal-stress rule” beyond Hertwig’s long-axis rule. Fantastic work led by @luanger.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Very cool! Happy that Gaussian splats are finally being used in microscopy. Related, I think that the Sbalzarini group's 2018 attempt with "Adaptive Particle Representation (APR)" was a bit ahead of its time. But now splats have infiltrated computer vision, so a lot of code and tricks are available.

This merits broader readership. Robotics has hard problems. Many sim-to-real problems are hard. Cool dynamics demos by Boston Dynamics and others have lulled outsiders into overestimating how much is solved. (Glam demos often make outsiders overestimate SOTA. This is a general problem.)

It is clear that people are using AI to review papers and grants. Often as a tool, not as an off the bottle answer for review (though some do). One of the signs of this is the detail of the negative comments and the errors, often minor and irrelevant to the conclusions. 🧵
