Closing the 4th St bridge to cars and opening it to trams and people would make this deadly intersection safer and make transit more reliable. Let's do it. See this vision in action in this illustration from our blog post on the topic www.safestreetrebel.com/blog/communi...

DIRECT ACTION GETS THE GOODS: Turns out there WAS room for more safety improvements at 4th and Channel St, as the community-installed curb extension has been officially replaced with a separated bike lane. This is a start, but we need MORE here and across the city.

Thanks, Mayor Lurie. sfstandard.com/newsletters/...
An article screenshot that reads:

Video from Dec. 11, obtained by Power Play, shows Lurie’s Rivian colliding with an F-Market & Wharves streetcar heading southbound on Market Street. The $134,000 electric vehicle (bought and donated to the city by Lurie himself) stops abruptly at the intersection of Octavia Boulevard while turning on its police lights, attempting to make a U-turn at a prohibited left-turn intersection. The streetcar does not have time to stop and collides with the Rivian, pushing it a couple of feet to the left of the road

We’re back. Two weeks ago, a driver killed a 2 year-old child at 4th and Channel—the third pedestrian fatality of 2026. Since then, all SFMTA has done was repaint the existing crosswalks for a photo op. So the community took matters into our own hands.

One of the many ways one can be anti fascist is to be pro public transit, to fight for communities where people can walk and bike safely, and to oppose the onslaught of cars in our cities. cars bring isolation and harm, streets for the people build community and let us resist.

Gov Newsom still hasn't signed the $750m loan to Bay Area transit agencies that would get us to the Nov 2026 funding votes. He has eight days to act. Please take a moment to call his office at (916) 445-2841 and use the attached script, copied from a @transbaycoalition.bsky.social.
Hi my name is (your name), I live in (your town), and I was so relieved in July when I heard that the state budget would include a $750 million emergency loan to BART, Muni, AC Transit, and Caltrain to stop massive service cuts, before funding starts to flow from a regional funding measure) . These transit agencies provide essential service to our communities and I depend on them to get where I need to go.

However, I’m very concerned that with just eight days left to issue the loan, the Governor hasn’t followed through on his promise to protect our communities from these devastating cuts. I’m calling to urge him to make good on his promise and issue that loan ASAP to these transit agencies and stop these terrible cuts. Thank you.

Advice for bike crashes in SF?

Unfortunately, a friend I was riding with this weekend got hit by a pickup truck making a left turn in front of him at a green light while he was going straight. He is okay - just lots of cuts and bruises, but his bike is destroyed. The driver tried to hit and run, until a witness started banging on his vehicle to get him to stop.

I was shocked to learn that SFPD wouldn't send anyone to the crash site unless an ambulance is needed.

SFPD did eventually show up, because the driver called, wanting to pursue damages to his vehicle (?!). The cop proceeded to victim blame my friend for "riding too fast" (\~15mph in a bike lane on a 25mph road) and "not being cautious enough around traffic."

Besides being beyond furious at how little the city cares to protect cyclists or enforce traffic laws, some practical questions for you all:

How do you document incidents if SFPD refuses to show up? Are there other things we could have said when we called 911 to indicate the seriousness of the crash?

The cop that showed up also indicated that my friend (the one who got hit) could get points on his license for a moving violation. Crazy. Are you obligated to give your drivers license number, even when a license is not required to ride a bike?
