You really don’t have to agree with people to agree on this: they shouldn’t be imprisoned or deported for their political views, or for their religion.

To quote Lando Calrissian, this deal is getting worse all the time. 10-ish years is certainly going to turn into longer, closing playgrounds and ruining local residents' lives, only to lock in the current design for generations. We need to think bigger. (And I get that this US DOT makes that hard.)

“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

These gas price increases really have an effect on people's budgets, making life more expensive. The only way we're going to solve this problem over the long term is a combination of: —Investment in transit —Dense development through TOD —Electrification of cars —Clean car standards

Gas prices have risen dramatically this year. For the typical driver, that's $65 more spent on gas monthly. If you're a typical F-150 driver in states like Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, or Missouri, you're spending >$350 a month on gas now. We've got to give people other options.

This was a fun one to record. The Harit Setu plan is very cool. Instead of a piecemeal approach—a short bike lane here, a fixed intersection there—the city is redesigning entire neighborhoods at once to create complete networks of bike lanes and continuous sidewalks as well as green infrastructure.

Notably, travel times also did not increase outside the congestion zone. This mirrors what we have seen in other aggregate congestion pricing impacts. For example, it was predicted that drivers would change their routes to avoid the zone, creating new congestion; this, too, did not happen.

I'll keep banging this drum, too: you can see from where the pavement has been ripped out that the geometry exists to do more than a detectable warning surface and also install real bump-outs that would shorten crossing distances and slow down turning drivers. A failure of interagency coordination.
