I’m generally a fan of Mission Local, so it’s disappointing when even they echo copaganda like “The SFPD staffing crisis is real and costs the city a fortune in overtime.” A staff shortage is SFPD’s opinion, and the linked article itself attributes the overtime cost to “potential abuse.”

It seems if you take Muni to BART, then get off BART and transfer back to another Muni line, you don’t get the free Muni to Muni transfer. You get charged another $2.35 for the second Muni ride (ie, only the BART to Muni 50cent discount). I’m salty about this.

Waymo lied about their robocar killing KitKat and the reality is so much worse. A woman is crouching near the front of the car trying to coax KitKat away. The moment she backs up, the car speeds away. A human driver would not have killed KitKat in this situation!

Many Waymo stans on this website argue it's fine for AVs to do illegal unsafe things as long as they're _less_ unsafe and lawbreaking than human drivers (which is itself asserted without evidence). Wild to see Alphabet itself openly embrace this logic, tho. They think they're above the law.

From “you’re fearmongering! rent-controlled units won’t be demolished” to “it’s good that they’ll be demolished,” in two easy steps!
Two comments in an Instagram comment section:

despair_core 2d
@deanprestond5 This is just outright fear mongering at this point - You're completely ignoring the economics of the situation as well as SF's own rent control laws that actively disincentivize the very demolition you're talking about.
2 unit rent controlled buildings will always remain:
- Expensive to acquire
- Legally difficult to tear down
- Obligated to be replaced with rent-controlled equivalent units
- Required to allow tenants back at old regulated rents into new buildings
- Primarily exist outside of high density rezoning corridors
- Exist on small low footprint lots that can't fit high density construction that make development actually profitable
Every post you make seems to be a half truth that is purely designed to score political points rather than suggesting a realistic and comprehensive alternative.
Do better.

scottinahat 2d
@despair_core if they're so unlikely to be developed, why didn't they simply remove them from the plan?despair_core 2d
@scottinahat Because the few that would likely be developed exist along high density transit corridors that would not have the same height restrictions as other areas of the up-zoning plan.
But in reality the most likely outcome is that none of them get developed because of the above reasons. Lurie could be using this as an effective tactic to juke the numbers to satisfy the statewide housing mandate while causing little to no impact on the city due to economic realities of for profit construction in SF.

tomlane 2d
@despair_core you just contradicted yourself by admitting that rent controlled units along high density corridors are at risk of redevelopment. City planners note that the number of units at risk are in the "thousands". Only reason to block protecting these units is to promote redeveloping them.
despair_core 1d
@tomlane City planners actually have no idea how many units are at risk and neither does Dean Preston because rent controlled units grouped into ranges. The lowest range calculated is 2-4 units.
High density transit corridors shouldn't have single story buildings, single story retail, or buildings with just two units. That's called poor urban planning (shrug emoji)
