Boss asked me to learn to use Claude, and I've figured out why women aren't adopting AI at the same rate as men: it takes my instructions, uses "logic" to determine that I'm wrong, and give me an incorrect answer to a question I didn't ask. And I don't need machines to replace human male colleagues.

This is a nonsense poem I wrote years ago for my kids. I found myself reciting it this morning. Maybe it’ll brighten your Friday :)
Copper Feet
(Nick Harkaway)

As I went boldly down the street
I met a man with copper feet.
He said: “I beg to disagree!”
I said: “But surely not with me?”
“Why, yes!” averred the cupric bloke;
“But sir,” I said, “I have not spoke!”
“Indeed,” said he, and then reflected:
“It was your silence I rejected.”

I despise with the heat of a thousand suns the way I have to be suspicious of all art I see now while I investigate it's authenticity, because this couldn't be more diametrically opposed to the state of mind one should be in while taking in all art.

This is why you need to be reading books and writing your own emails, by the way. When you outsource your thinking abilities, you risk turning your brain into soup. Heavy dependence on AI has already been linked with severe cognitive decline. What you don’t use, you will lose.
Headline in today's Guardian that reads "Reading and writing can lower dementia risk by almost 40 percent, study finds. Cognitive health in later life is 'strongly influenced' by lifelong exposure to intellectually stimulating environments, say researchers."

A new year cartoon for @theguardian.com books
Title: The five stages of coming to terms with an over ambitious reading resolution.

A couple sit up in bed reading. The woman speaks and her partner is silent.

1. Denial.
"No, Finishing a book every 2.75 days is not absurd!" She scowls.

2. Anger.
"Why are these books all so long!!!" She looks fuirious.

3. Bargaining.
"If you read a book and tell me about it, that counts right?" She looks at her partner pleadingly.

4. Depression.
"All joy has fled yet my failure persists!" She is sunk in the covers.

5. Acceptance
"Being at one with the art is all that matters" she says as she reads.
Then adds "And next year I'm going to be at one with so much more art!"

Happy New Year, everyone! This is a @theguardian.com books cartoon from a few years ago.
Title: New year's resolution

A man sits at a table with a coffee writing in a notebook: “This year i will devote myself completely to reading serious, improving literature, forsaking easy pleasures and tirelessly seeking out truth and profundity in the work of the greatest writers.”

He looks at it
Says: Hmm...
then “Scratch Scratch Scratch scratch” scribbles out words until the text reads: “This year I will read for Fun”

You have often heard me repeat the founding phrase of Hookland: re-enchantment is resistance. This is the county’s core truth. However, I will point out that that sometimes re-enchantment is also an act of intentional sabotage.
