I am sick and tired of seeing this shit. DOGE was not a "missed opportunity," it was an intentional effort by billionaire oligarchs to destroy the federal government's capacity to do good things for the American people.

tbh Michigan politicians have to say bullshit like this but also I don't think that it should be said without consequence from our allies lmao. If you accuse Canada/Mexico/The EU of stealing Michigan manufacturing and strangling industries in the crib, well, they have a right to be upset about that

My undergraduate philosophy brain says Foucault was right about stuff. I don’t believe that humans are inherently evil. But they DO seem inherently self-interested and democracy demands quite a bit of sacrifice to an ephemeral idea of the greater good

I do think this should put some of the hand-wringing over the uniquely sinful American electorate, uniquely feckless institutions, etc in perspective. The truth is that there is a large trans-national constituency of people who actively want this. They aren’t deceived. They want this.

the thing is, there does exist a level of fascist horror that creates a durable impression among voters that this is a monstrous ideology that can never be allowed near power, and they vote accordingly. we know this because it was the prevailing state of affairs for seventy years.

I think it's pretty clear by now that there is nowhere near a majority of voters, anywhere, who inherently see far-right authoritarianism as extrinsic to the success or survival of democratic systems.

In my view, it is far more useful and urgent to get people to recognise the profound injustice caused by Zionism, than to argue whether the original ideology had any redeeming or liberatory aspects. Does arguing about 19th century Jewish politics helps us to stop genocide? I don't think so. 4/
