one of the ways the media shows which side they prefer, is which politicians they quote uncharitably out-of-context and which they clean up for even when what they actually say and do is offensive (the Biden story ran on the front page less than a week before the 24 election)

very tired of being told it is the responsibility of urban democratic voters never to risk possibly maybe by chance seeming less than respectful of rural red state life and then watching thousands in nebraska cheer on the president joking about a nuclear strike on me and millions of my neighbors

There are SO many ways for siblings & heads of family to set real boundaries on what is acceptable behavior. A whole lot of people just opted for "sweep it under the rug" instead. And then we act surprised that the rug is now lumpy as hell & approximately at eye level.

Right? That's a culture of sweeping it under the rug. You can also simply let Uncle John pop off, and then find out everyone thinks he's an asshole. Use him as a teaching moment for the kids. Or "sure John you can talk about lizard people, but only when you're doing dishes."

On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that Americans aren’t uniquely stupid, voters everywhere have skulls filled with mush and worms. On the other hand, global fascism is probably not an ideal state of affairs.

this is not a quote-dunk, but I am going to push back on the essentialism here the Torah is not about the liberation from slavery. The beginning of Exodus contains a very compelling story about liberation. later it explicitly condones slavery. these are both present and one does not negate the other

Ahad Ha'am, one of the key figures of classic Cultural Zionism, has writings that allow for a Jewish gathering in the Land of Israel without it having to be in the form of a sovereign state. You also have deep divisions about the role of religion, how to treat Arabs, how socialist to be, etc

this is not a problem you can fix with calm, reasoned debate. you can't even fix it by improving people's lives with policy. there is no clear, proven, non-violent solution to this issue. finding one is the most significant problem of our age.

The fact that there is a social stigma around being a vegan is frankly embarrassing for us as a society. At absolutely worst, veganism should be accepted as a perfectly valid lifestyle choice in a liberal society, and imo it should be seen much more positively than that

Briahna Joy Gray is mad that left-wing outlets didn't promote Jose Vega, a Congressional candidate running for the far-right LaRouche Party in NY.
Briahna Joy Gray: "Did a single major left channel show any curiosity about Vega's race?

I know that I interviewed him as did Sabby Sabs. It's a shame to think it might have made a difference in a race against one of the most outspoken Zionists in congress.

Anyway, Sam Husseini is currently running for congress and available for interviews."
