Another clear and knowable downstream consequence of letting scammers get rich off crypto was that that money would boomerang back into politics in ways that were highly likely to try to skirt around fundraising laws and distort policy incentives.

Comics in the Spooky Age 🧛‍♂️🧟‍♀️🎃 @comicsinthega.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
In the Land of Wonderful Dreams by Winsor McCay from September 8, 1912.
In this installment, Nemo and Flip meet a boy named Jack who has grown a giant beanstalk. But he is afraid to climb it because there is a giant there who is very cross. Nemo & Flip climb up and encounter the giant, who turns out to be terrified of them. Flip orders the giant to carry them to the princess, and he does carry Flip on his shoulder, but Nemo runs along beside them. They meet up with the Princess in her carriage and Flip orders him to pick it up so he can say hello. In the second to last panel, giant is holding them up in the carriage in one hand while the horses leading it are dangling over the side by their reins. It ends as usual with Nemo waking up in his bed.

I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on

Sometimes Monet planted his art before he painted it. At Giverny, he redesigned nature like a canvas—diverting rivers, planting lilies, bamboo, and willows. “My finest masterpiece,” he said, “is my garden.”

Because the people in this government are gleefully malevolent you naturally assume they are more evil than stupid but they're stupid first. They think everyone who came before, everyone who built the world they've benefited from, was dumb. People like Musk and Trump both have this idiot's disease

This is one of many reasons why designing societies around cars was a mistake. It's not a path to follow, it's something that good civic leaders are now trying to undo. These guys don't understand *anything* about society, yet governments are allowing them to shape our futures with their ignorance.

A basic income program in central Iowa gave 110 people $500/mo. It caused improvements in savings, stress, and agency. It also found significant changes in scores relating to hope — the ability to create goals and feel capable of working toward them, and also increases in mattering and self-reliance
