This notion of bigoted beliefs being a protected characteristic like gender or race is just absolutely barmy. Those of us who’ve experienced genuine discrimination for who we are know there’s no comparison, and the political and legal collusion on this stuff is disastrous.

I’ve seen many references to this: "Labor is transphobic now so Democrats will be too!" This is based on a failure to consider the different origins and valences of transphobia in the UK and the US. Transphobia in the UK is fueled by TERFs. In the US, by the religious right.

I revere Dolly Parton much as I do Fred Rogers. They’re people who made it their life goal just to be gentle and kind to everyone that they met. They are prime examples of how we all should behave and live our lives.

As women, racialised, LGBT, disabled, working class folk have entered academia, we/they have exposed how knowledge is not some abstract thing to “discover.” Knowledge is produced in particular (hierarchical) social and political settings. Academia, like other institutions, reproduces inequalities.
