Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Much of the cheaper foods are ultraprocessed. Therefore before we urge everyone to avoid them we must advocate for an economic system that makes the non processed foods more affordable and/or increase the average person’s affordability. We can’t call the first public health and the second political.

Sorry but the doom I feel with the AI race is somewhat similar to what I felt at the start of the pandemic. Many voices raising the alarm & urging action before it’s too late but they’re being labelled as alarmists while most people are oblivious & governments are too slow to pay attention & act.

How infuriating are the AI tech bros warning the whole world about the monstrosity of their own products yet not stopping their production. They say we can’t control it anymore but they’re don’t pause. Greed is the ultimate evil, not AI agents.

Ed Sheeran gave another speech yesterday which teaches us all that one should stop digging when one simply doesn’t get it. This guy had the agency and means to do something inspirational. Ed said ‘I never wanted to be an activist musician’ and this myth in particular must be dispelled for good. You’re not an ‘activist’ musician, doctor, academic, student whatever if your soul urges you to stand with the oppressed with a little word, song or symbol. It’s called HUMANITY not activism.

It’s extraordinary how much the world worried about the ethics of genetic advances like cloning & how little is done about the ethics of genAI now. Look at our institutions- a persistent wildly enthusiastic uncritical call for AI adoption in everything. Where is the call for ethical scrutiny first?

I learned that ‘being nice’ is something you give by judgement not by default. As women we’re taught to carry on being nice until we’re badly hurt & even then ‘be nice so you’re the better person’. But no, life’s too short for feeling we owe niceness to those who exploit it.
