Nine pages into a new book, and cat number two decides it’s time to help.

A black cat sleeps oh-so-peacefully on a lap, having fully displaced a laptop computer which was being used to write a chapter of a new novel. It is now a meter away. The cat is purring, delighted with himself.

Every time this comes up now, it’s ~12 seconds before I’m in full panic. I’ve never even been at the centre of the storm. That’s what being one of these authors is like - constant low-level anxiety.
