The lesson of 2017-2023 is that when Labour actually does shit to make people's lives improve, they get record popularity and when they back away from doing that and cancel lots of good things, they eat shit at the ballot box. We’ve known this was coming. By 1 May 2028 the NZ copyright term will be extended from 50 to 70 years after death, benefiting a few publishers and ensuring nothing will enter the public domain for 20 years. Worst case, it will be retrospective, clawing back things currently freely shareable.

A lot of our discourse seems to assume that 1) these wrong beliefs somehow arise naturally and 2) politicians have a duty to behave as if these wrong beliefs are true. It saves asking questions about old and new media, or doing anything brave, but it’s rotting our society and economy.
