So we blocked IFNγ in Mtb infected macaques and….the animals were fine. Turns out mice overestimate the importance of IFNγ in TB because IFNγ drives iNOS in mice but not macaques or humans. This means we don’t actually know how T cells suppress Mtb. rdcu.be/ff9GB #tuberculosis #immunology

So TB is back in a big way in the US — 10,388 cases last year, highest since 2011. Four straight years of increases after decades of decline. The mix is rough: reactivated latent infections, outbreaks in shelters and prisons, and federal funding getting slashed right when we need it most. 2025 numbers look even worse. We were supposed to be eliminating this disease, not watching it rebound.
